    Job Description and Duties


    Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Sr Psychologist (Specialist) is responsible for implementing an effective performance management program and processes at an individual institution.

    An effective performance management system ensures consistency with the CDCR Health Care Services missions; aligns with community standards of care; achieves adherence with policies and procedures, and state and federal laws; and supports continuous learning and excellence.

    Applying knowledge of quality concepts, principles, theories, and best practices, this position ensures that there are appropriate systems, processes, and structures in place at the institution to evaluate and improve the local health care system, institution staff have the skills and knowledge required to participate in improvement activities, and the organizational culture supports continuous learning and improvement.

    Other activities under the purview of this position include risk management activities, identification and dissemination of best practices from both within the prison health care system and at other health care organizations, health care incident reporting and sentinel event review, and other patient safety activities, and preparation and coordination of external surveys, audits, and other reviews.

    The Senior Psychologist (Specialist) serves as an advisor to institution executives, and acts as a liaison with the Statewide Quality Officer and Quality Management Section staff, statewide executives in various disciplines, other Institution CQOs, and other stakeholder groups as appropriate.

    Moderate travel may be required.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    License:
    Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology


    AND

    Degree:

    Possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.


    Individuals who do not qualify for licensure by the California Board of Psychology or who are in the process of securing licensure will be admitted into the exam and may be appointed, but must secure a valid license within three years of appointment or the employment shall be terminated.

    For persons employed less than full time, an extension of a waiver of licensure may be granted for additional years proportional to the extent of part-time employment, as long as the person is employed without interruption in service, but in no case shall the waiver exceed five years.

    Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
