    Data Engineer I Job Description

    Smartlink's IT department operates at a dynamic pace, driven by individuals committed to delivering top-notch technology solutions to our workforce, who are at the forefront of pivotal telecommunications systems. As a Data Engineer I, you'll assume a central role in bolstering business operations and optimizing system efficacy through your advanced technical acumen and experience. Your responsibilities will entail helping manage Smartlink's data warehouse, pipelines, ETL's and offer design and change management assistance across platforms like Sitetracker, QlikSense, and Salesforce. Proficiency in the software design lifecycle, encompassing requirement analysis, specification, design, implementation, testing, and enhancement development, is integral to ensuring a seamless end-user experience aligned with Smartlink's software development protocols and business requisites.

    Primary Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

    • Cultivate expertise in Smartlink's data systems, software systems, and applications spectrum, encompassing SQL, Azure Synapse, Salesforce, Sitetracker, SAP Business One, QlikSense, development tools, and procedural methodologies, prioritizing a comprehensive understanding of their functionalities. *
    • Assemble large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements.
    • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
    • Assist in the development of Smartlink's data warehouse, pipelines, and ETL's across cloud products. *
    • Build analytical tools to utilize data pipelines
    • Design and develop new software applications that fully meet business specifications. *
    • Create applications development project schedules as well as task and project completion time estimates. *
    • Provide adept support, maintenance, and enhancement of existing stored procedures, fostering operational efficiency and seamless functionality. Create new stored procedures as needed. *
    • Ensure proper database tuning and perform database backup and recoveries as needed. *
    • Manage SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) operations for data management and integration tasks.*
    • Utilize PowerShell and macro automation to drive SSIS jobs, enhancing efficiency and automation in data processes. *
    • Work with GitHub repositories and version control for efficient code management and collaboration. *
    • Partner with external vendors to coordinate development tasks, ensuring seamless integration and project execution. *
    • Perform adequate unit testing of own and other developers' software and application development work to ensure all requirements have been addressed and all basic functionality works. *
    • Expeditiously troubleshoot application issues, resolve the issues without causing additional problems, and communicate solutions to users. *
    • Maintain professional, ethical, and company standards at all times.

    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
    • 2+ years working as a Data Analyst or Engineer on a technical team supporting CRM, BI, ERP, and/or CDW/EDW systems.
    • 2+ years of experience working in different phases of software development lifecycle, including application design and implementation experience.
    • 2+ years of working with SQL, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, or other "big data" platforms.
    • Experience working within Salesforce. Salesforce Certification is a plus.
    • Expertise in development tools and procedures, including SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar ETL/ELT tools, PowerShell scripting, and macro automation.
    • Demonstrated skill in supporting and enhancing existing stored procedures, ensuring database integrity, and conducting thorough unit testing.
    • Experience in managing GitHub repositories and version control for efficient code management and collaboration.
    • In-depth understanding of the software development life cycle including demonstrated knowledge of the design, coding, testing, verification, validation, and support of software.
    • Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio – must be able to create, modify, read, and understand.
    • Must be familiar with Microsoft SQL Server database maintenance including backup, tuning, and restore methodologies.
    • Experience in SQL Query optimization and development (stored procedures, views, scheduled jobs) in SQL Server.
    • Technology savvy with the ability to master new technologies as needed.
    • Strong oral and written communication including the ability to present ideas in both a business-friendly and user-friendly language.
    • Knowledge, understanding, and ability to create and maintain thorough technical documentation for a diverse target audience.
    • Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
    • Highly self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, including conducting research into issues.
    • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
    • Ability to adapt to a changing environment, including personal flexibility in day-to-day work.

    Travel Requirements:

    • Minimal travel (<10%) is expected in association with performing this position.
