    Physician Assistant Job Description

    The primary objective of the Physician Assistant is to provide direct clinical support to physicians in a collaborative environment, focusing on surgeries, patient care, and other related medical activities.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Conduct thorough patient history and physical examinations to inform diagnosis and treatment plans.
    • Detect, treat, and manage acute and chronic health issues, ensuring continuity of care.
    • Order and interpret laboratory and radiology tests as needed to inform treatment decisions.
    • Prescribe medication, including controlled substances, under the terms of a collaborative practice agreement.
    • Document patient assessments, management plans, and education provided in a clear, concise manner within the electronic medical record.
    • Develop strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and their significant others, providing feedback on findings and treatment plans.
    • Assess patients' and their families' psychosocial, emotional, and environmental needs, taking a holistic approach to care.
    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care coordination and meet physician needs.
    • Provide phone triage services to assess patients' needs and respond accordingly.
    • Coordinate patient care activities with office staff, hospitals, or community resources as necessary.
    • Deliver educational programs to patients, families, and community groups, promoting healthy habits and disease prevention.
    • Maintain compliance with documentation and coding requirements, staying up-to-date with best practices and regulations.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development, updating knowledge and skills to stay current in the field.
    • Promote patient-centered care by working collaboratively with the healthcare team to achieve quality care standards and effective case management.
    • Participate in scheduled team meetings to discuss roles, responsibilities, processes, and patient concerns.
    • Communicate with community agencies as needed to facilitate care management.
    • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and committees to enhance patient outcomes and care delivery.
    • Attend hospital rounds to support practice needs and participate in on-call duties, including emergency calls and telephone support.

    Requirements:

    • Exercise high levels of independent judgment and critical thinking.
    • Demonstrate exceptional service attitude and communication style, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
    • Exhibit excellent written and verbal skills, communicating complex information effectively.
    • Meet organizational standards for clinical competency, adhering to protocol and best practices.
    • Possess Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.
    • Show professional appearance and demeanor, reflecting positively on the organization.

    Education and Experience:

    • Hold current New York State license and board certification as a Physician Assistant.
    • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
    • Possess current BLS Certification.

    • Reaching: 50%
    • Bending: 50%
    • Lifting: Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

    Working Environment:

    Work in a comfortable indoor climate with suitable equipment and tools to perform job responsibilities. May be exposed to communicable diseases through patient care and interaction.
