    By joining our Project Delivery & Preservation Branch II Owensboro Section as a Highway Technician Assistant Iin Daviess County, you will have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field training to allowfor continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance operations.

    Holders of the Highway Technician Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:
  • Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayer.
  • Haul materials to and from job sites.
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment and vehicles.
  • Operate a dump truck with snowplow and salt spreader in winter months.
  • Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
    • Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Learn and assist with basic surveying activities on construction projects.
  • Learn to operate various types of heavy equipment such as road grater, backhoe, and roller.
  • Learn to perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment.
    • Desired candidates should possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climate.
  • Basic experience in equipment operation for road maintenance.
  • Experience completing shift or on-call schedule.
    • Additional information:
  • Some travel will be required for professional trainings
  • Incumbents in this job title should possess the ability to sit, stoop, and bend
  • Required to be able to lift and carry 50 pounds

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Employee in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority, within 12 months of employment in this job classification, documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS
