    JOB DESCRIPTION:


    A Unit Clerk assists the department with clerical duties, including scheduling, follow-up, discharge resident appointments, coordinating resident transportation, and filing.

    Additional duties may be assigned.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents concerning medical records duties in the Nursing Department.

    Attends all mandatory in-services by employee's anniversary date.
    Acts appropriately under the direction of the Director of Health Information Services and as an active interdisciplinary team member.
    Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in shift assignments to meet facility and department needs.
    Completes facility-conducted orientation of specialized dementia Ward, as appropriate.
    Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions.

    ADMINISTRATIVE

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Prepares Admission/re-admission charts by inputting basic information.
    Files completed chart forms on appropriate charts.
    Maintains the order of the medical record and their appearance.
    Assembles and prepares closed charts for final filing in the Medical Records Room.
    Copies Medical Records for Business Office on request for Third Party Payor.
    Schedules diagnostic and laboratory tests as requested by nursing.
    Replaces other Ward Clerks or Directors of Health Information Services as needed.

    Directs Nursing Aids to those residents that request help (call bell).Answers phones when Nursing Staff is busy or absent from the desk.
