- Three years' experience in interpreting and applying State or Federal hazardous waste regulations at the sites of generators or permitted operating facilities.
- Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
- Performs statistical analysis of data.
- Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
- Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
- Possession of a Masters degree or higher in an environmentally related scientific discipline OR Bachelors degree or higher in an environmentally related scientific discipline and current professional certification.
- Possession of scientific prominence or recognition with publication in a scientific or trade journal.
- Three years experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
- Three years experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
- Three years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

Introduction
The DNREC - Compliance and Permitting Section of Waste and Hazardous Substance regulates solid waste through the inspection of waste generators and permitting of waste management facilities. The section also develops programs to achieve sustainable waste management practices through waste reduction, re-use, and recycling.
Summary Statement
This position provides technical and scientific support for the hazardous waste regulatory program of the Compliance and Permitting Section within the Division of Waste and Hazardous Substances. Primary duties include serving as a subject matter expert within the hazardous waste program responsible for regulatory compliance at the state's hazardous waste generator facilities. Responsibilities include conducting compliance inspections, documenting inspection findings, and preparing enforcement actions to address noncompliance. Responsibilities may also include assisting with waste program commitments, e.g., preparing written documentation, addressing multiple program regulatory questions, providing technical guidance to lower-level technical staff, and permitting.Selective Requirement
