Something powerful: knowledge, understanding, and—often—hope Together we can improve the human condition through That's Good Science How this role drives the company forward: The Director, Product Management is responsible for managing a team of Product Managers responsible for ensuring worldwide market growth of established and new product lines. The Director, Product Management will ensure their team has a deep understanding of the life science research market and competition, and the ability to work collaboratively with R&D and the Market Strategy Managers to build and manage a product roadmap for expanding into key markets. The Director, Product Management's team will manage the product life cycle and phase gate process to ensure alignment with R&D on individual projects in order to prepare, plan, and implement new product launches. They will be responsible for developing a tactical marketing plan for North America that includes actionable marketing campaigns/programs to drive high-value sales leads and revenue growth across diverse product areas. The Director, Product Management's team will work with Marketing Communications to develop and deliver positioning documents (e.g. CueCards, Battle Cards), product training, sales tools, and other application- specific content to enable the sales team and drive product launches. The Director, Product Management role is office-based. A limited amount of travel will be required as needed. How you will make an impact: In this role, you will make an impact by driving a customer-centric approach to new product development and ensuring that the company's products effectively address customer pain points and deliver value. You will help expand Takara Bio's presence within the life sciences market by launching successful products, optimizing product portfolios, and ensuring creation of targeted messaging and implementation of promotional activities. Through the effective leadership of a high performing team of product managers, you will drive growth and maximize the financial performance of the product offering which will expand the company's reach and lead to long term success in the life science market. What will you do:
    • Builds the product management team by attracting talented Product Managers to the company and leading the team across multiple product lines and initiatives.
    • Manages and mentors product management team ensuring their work is timely, clear, compelling, and meets project timelines and objectives. Provides coaching, leadership, and assistance with resources.
    • Tracks product development projects and works with R&D team to manage the portfolio and prioritize projects. Leads team through challenges that arise in product development including timelines, technical risks, vendors, shifting requirements, resource limitations, and cost.
    • Collaborates with other marketing and sales team members to develop product messaging and high-impact sales tools that include, but are not limited to, cue cards, brochures, application notes, and web and social media content.
    • Works with marketing communications team to capture and analyze metrics to improve ROI, optimize marketing campaign effectiveness, and explore new promotional channels to grow sales.
    • Works with VP, Sales to develop annual budget and achieve sales plan.
    • Collaborates with Market Strategy Managers to develop go-to-market strategies and positioning for new products.
    • Oversees execution of go-to-market and segment-specific strategies for new product launches. Ensures the team conducts annual product line reviews and 12-month post-launch reviews for all new product launches.
    • Represents product management team in new product development meetings and market strategy team meetings. Helps support vision and product strategy for key markets by building consensus across a range of stakeholders and functional teams.
    • Provides input and support for long-term product roadmaps by gaining market insights via customer feedback and competitor analysis. Analyzes existing products and markets in terms of ability to compete, gain market share, grow revenue, and maintain profits.
    • Ensures team develops and delivers high-quality sales trainings to help support vision and strategy for key market segments and commercialization activities.
    • May be assigned to manage other teams in Marketing.
    • This position has supervisory responsibilities.
    How will you get here?
    • Requires a BA or BS degree; MS and/or PhD considered favorably.
    • A minimum of 18 years of experience in product marketing for life science or related markets with a minimum of 10 years of experiencing managing a team of marketing professionals
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated proficiency in presenting.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Must be detail-oriented and have strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to think creatively.
    • Collaborative team player who can build credibility and relationships across all functions and levels of the organization.

The US base salary range for this full-time position, expected to be located in San Jose, CA, is $220,000 - $230,000 USD. This range may be modified at any time at our sole discretion. This base salary does not include additional bonus compensation and benefits.
