    The University of Maine invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in Counselor Education in the College of Education and Human Development with an anticipated start date of September 2024 or, if preferable, January 2024.

    Applicants with professional training and experience in the preparation of school counselors and online graduate education are strongly encouraged to apply.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    The College of Education and Human Development seeks a colleague committed to excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching.

    We seek a person with strong leadership and mentoring skills for the programs that lead to a Master's degree in School Counseling and an Education Specialist degree in School Counseling.


    The successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity to oversee the creation of a new graduate program in school counseling at an R1 Research Institution.

    Initial duties include overseeing program development, including collaborating with faculty members in counselor education at the University of Southern Maine.

    The successful candidate will have a clear and compelling research agenda leading to publications in influential journals, external funding, and conference presentations.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Doctoral degree in school counseling or a closely related field prior to the start date
    • Potential for scholarly achievement and extramurally funded research
    • Robust research methodology skills
    • Dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
    • Commitment to collaboration with public schools
    • Licensable as Maine School Counselor (Endorsement 075)
    • Commitment to high impact instructional practices, including virtual delivery
    • Ability and desire to collaborate as a member of a team

    Required for appointment as Associate Professor:

    • A strong record of scholarly achievement and extramurally funded research commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Maine
    • Evidence of strong record of teaching at the graduate level in Counselor Education.
    • Exceptional and demonstrated leadership abilities

    Preferred:

    • Experience and proven commitment to rural schools and communities
    • Quantitative research skills
    • Doctoral degree from CACREP-accredited instruction
