    Description

    The Department of Enrichment and Extended Learning is responsible for the planning and oversight of afterschool, vacation, and summer learning opportunities that meet the unique needs and pathways for students attending Holyoke Public Schools. We believe that if we:

    • Identify the knowledge and skills needed for students to step up successfully and develop a project-based, standards-aligned curriculum across all grade levels
    • Embed research best practices throughout every aspect of program design
    • Engage CBOs and other enrichment providers in planning and implementing bold, innovative, project-based, and standards informed enrichment
    • Engage and support the best teachers through high-quality curriculum resources, professional learning, and ongoing observation and feedback
    • Involve and build relationships with students and families throughout the process
    Holyoke Public Schools offers programming that reinforces skills learned during the year, strengthens skills identified as areas of concern, and provides a supportive environment for student academic and socio-emotional growth.

    We are currently seeking paraprofessionals to support students within the program. This is an ideal position for an innovative and enthusiastic team player who is passionate about promoting positive youth development in any program setting. Paraprofessionals work as a team with fellow paraprofessionals and other staff to create a safe, supportive, and student-centered learning environment. Paraprofessionals will serve as support to instructors and will also be responsible for assisting in the implementation of team and community-building activities.

    Responsibilities include:

    Student Support
    • Provide support for every component of the summer day including recreational, academic, and enrichment activities
    • Build strong, positive relationships with students through positive and respectful 1:1 conversations, mentoring, and skill-building activities
    • Promote positive behavior, youth development, and student voice and leadership within the summer program
    • Provide 1:1 and small group academic support to students under the direction of a certified teacher
    • Address behavior issues/concerns in accordance with established behavior policies
    Program Support
    • Be an active participant in staff development and engage in reflection on adult practices to promote positive youth development and social-emotional learning
    • Support staff in providing students with a program environment that is conducive to learning
    • Assist teachers and enrichment instructors with various logistical aspects of implementing enrichment programs and academic support
    Requirements
    • High School Diploma or working toward one with demonstrated student leadership experience
    • Experience with students in urban settings preferred
    • Experience with diverse populations preferred
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills and ability to be flexible and think creatively
