Short Hills Surgery Center, located in Millburn, New Jersey, is seeking a Full Time Certified Lead Sterile Processing Technician to join our exceptional healthcare team. SHSC is a fast-paced, AAAHC-Certified state of the art facility. Our multi-specialty same-day surgery center has all the accreditations of a traditional hospital but we set a higher standard for physician and nursing care. The result: our high patient satisfaction scores and low infection rates. Our 25,000-square-foot facility features six major operating rooms, two minor surgery rooms, and 24 recovery beds, including four private rooms, all within an upscale, comfortable atmosphere. This position is a great opportunity for the right candidate including a minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a hospital or ambulatory setting.
Essential, core functions of the Certified Lead Sterile Processing Technician include, but not limited to:
- Ensures that the instruments are properly sterilized, and the department is prepared for all cases at the scheduled surgery times, in accordance with AAMI standards.
- Ensures that the sterilizers are maintained and the proper documentation is in place. Records temperature, pressure and records time of test loads.
- Manages, and is accountable for, the replenishment, and maintenance of sterile processing equipment and supplies; ensures proper equipment function as well as timely and preventative maintenance of equipment; establishes maintenance and replacement schedules; monitors and assures the proper use of chemicals and personal safety equipment; may recommend facility improvements or assist with planning new facility construction Ensures that all sterile supplies are checked regularly, and maintains quality standards in the instrument room.
- Oversees and supervises departmental infection control, quality control and quality improvement programs and staff; ensures their compliance with State, AAAHC and other regulations; monitors work in progress as well as completed work to ensure process and service quality; works with Clinical Director to develop action plans when needed for improvement; responds to complaints and seeks appropriate remedies.
- Ensures appropriate departmental staffing; selects, assigns, trains, directs and evaluates subordinate staff; reports employee actions that require disciplinary matters to Clinical Director; verifies and monitors staff proficiency; identifies staff development needs and oversees training and education activities as required.
- Implements departmental goals to ensure the efficiencies and productivity. Assists with the Completion of performance appraisals and staff introductory assessments as necessary.
- Promotes adherence to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
- Serves a liaison between the Operating Room staff and the SPD staff.
- Participates in audits, DOH, CMS and other surveying bodies.
- Collaborates with Quality Lead to ensure all quarterly reports are completed, and process improvement projects.
- Maintains certifications and ensures that staff member's certifications are maintained.
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of a certified sterile processing program.
- At least two years experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in ASC or acute care-setting
- Must maintain Sterile Processing Technician certification.
- Must have BLS certification.
- Must have sufficient reading ability to read safety instructions and chemical product labels.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
