    The Controls Technician provides frontline technical support and continuous improvement to the operations on a daily basis. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, maintaining, and identifying improvements to improve the uptime and reliability of control systems for vital equipment in a manufacturing facility. In this role, the Controls Technician will be required to assist Controls Engineers in projects from concept through completion. The Controls Technician will need to have excellent teamwork and communication skills to smoothly implement key projects.

    Qualifications

    The Controls Technician must act as a safety champion and drive safety improvements daily through the following actions:
    • Actively participate inSafety Programs
    • Participate in incident investigations and resolutions
    • Develop process improvements with a "safety first" attitude
    • Immediately address any potential safety issues with the appropriate personnel
    • Review and evaluate ergonomic and safety concerns and risks for all activities and projects
    Focus on safety and ergonomics are a required and essential part of this role. The Controls Technician must act as a change agent and strive to continuously improve and develop a safety focused culture.
    • Continuous Improvement
      • Support standardized documentation of PLC systems logic and HMI for run, reset, and recovery
      • Understand current list of PLCs, sensors, and other electrical components for the plant
      • Work with Maintenance and Controls to ensure critical spare parts are stocked for controls items
      • Support Controls Engineers with project work and implementing improvements
      • Assist departmental leadership with housekeeping and 5S standards
    • Equipment Protection and Safety
      • Assist in making changes to equipment controls to improve reliability and safety
      • Good understanding of OSHA safety requirements for controls
      • Adhere to plant LOTO standards and comply with safety regulations
    • Equipment and facilities
      • Act as a Frontline resource for day-to-day troubleshooting on controls issues
      • Perform emergency controls troubleshooting and fixes on equipment and facility systems
      • Assist Controls Engineers in process improvement and cost savings initiatives
      • Support maintaining documentation of work performed on controls equipment and programs
      • Aid in the installation of new equipment and upgrades, including panel builds and wiring
      • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support major repairs, upgrades, and integration projects
      • Understanding of networks, software, tools for effective controls work
      • Ability to read PLC ladder logic with limited change access
      • Assist in controls knowledge development in Maintenance, Reliability, and Process Engineering
      • Understanding of I/O, drive systems, and electrical panel components for new projects and upgrades
    Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED; post-secondary electrical and/or mechanical vocational training preferred
    • 5+ years Controls Experience
    • Ability to read blueprints and machine control schematics
    • Ability to navigate via PLC operation sequence, I/O information, and instrumentation feedback
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a group
    • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
    • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC control systems
