    Duties


    Purpose:


    The primary goal of this position is to provide content and language development support in an effort to improve academic growth and achievement for students learning English as a second language.

    Specifically, it is to raise the level of language acquisition instruction while sustaining best practices that are culturally and linguistically responsive.

    Essential Functions


    • Effectively provides language acquisition support in multiple content areas.
    • Designs and revises lesson plans on an ongoing basis considering students' needs, English Language Development levels, and interests.
    • Provides learning experiences, which develop basic communication skills, utilizing a variety of language acquisition methods, and strategies
    • Provides individualized and small group instruction in native language of students as needed and appropriate.
    • Effectively establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment in the classroom.
    • Communicates with families on a regular basis regarding student progress, program activities, and assessments (i.e. student progress reports, newsletters, etc).
    • Develops student understanding and appreciation of both their native and English culture.
    • Evaluates each student's progress in listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language based on the Illinois English Language Development standards.
    • Identifies student needs and works collaboratively with other professional staff in assisting students to develop the acquisition of the English language.
    • Translates documents vital for home/school communication as needed.
    • Provides translation for parents during parent/teacher conferences, registration, and other school activities.
    • Participates in the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee as appropriate.
    • Maintains professional competence through in-service activities provided within and outside of the District.
    Other Functions


    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    Qualifications


    • Professional Educator License
    • Endorsement in ESL
    • Preferred one or more of the following Endorsement - Spanish Bilingual, Russian Bilingual and Ukrainian Bilingual
    Salary/Benefits

    Based on experience and education level.
