    Description

    The Staff Pad is looking for a Counselor III in Portland, Oregon. The Counselor III, Associate provides and coordinates a wide range of supportive and therapeutic mental health services for a caseload of adults with severe mental illnesses and addiction issues. This position collaborates with internal and external resources to assure the best possible treatment for clients.

    Essential Duties

    • Integrate best practices into the day-to-day operations, including Evidence Based Practices, Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing.
    • Demonstrate working knowledge of accepted treatment practice along with the ability to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and recommend alternate strategies as necessary, with review minimum every 30 days or as clinically indicated.
    • Provide crisis assessment and intervention services to clients to assist in minimizing or eliminating periods of crisis, severe dysfunction, and acute care utilization.
    • Facilitate both group and individual strength-based skills training utilizing illness management and recovery concepts, conduct family/support person sessions, and termination sessions.
    • Provide advocacy and case management services for clients including securing benefits and accessing appropriate housing, medical, and emergency services.
    • Continue to work directly with clients if hospitalized and actively collaborate with hospital personnel to affect client discharge as soon as possible.
    • Coach clients in setting their own goals and identifying realistic steps to achieve their goals.
    • Assist clients in developing and accessing natural community supports.
    • Work closely with external and internal departments and programs to ensure integration of care, including coordination of treatment planning and ongoing support services.
    • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols/procedures and coordinating with the treatment team with interventions.

    Compliance

    • Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as indicated in the licensing requirements for the program as well as agency requirements.
    • Adhere to generally accepted treatment standards, departmental rules, company policies and terms and conditions of contracts or grants.
    • Attend and participate in all meetings as assigned, including but not limited to staff and team meetings, consultations with staff, individual and group supervision.
    • Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements.
    • Document and maintain clinical records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Requirements

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Within six months of hire, must complete master's degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university. Demonstrate the competencies to become credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) as outlined in the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).

    Must be eligible to be registered or certified as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) with MHACBO. Requires a bachelor's degree in behavioral science or three years of direct care experience. See for details.

    Required Experience:

    Clinical experience providing inpatient, or outpatient services is preferred.

    Experience working with diverse populations preferred.

    Other:

    Ability to commute to various sites and community locations as needed.
