    Default job background
    Description

    OVERVIEW

Ingenuity Prep is a supportive school community dedicated to academic rigor and civic leadership, preparing students for the path to colleges and career of their choosing. Our innovative instructional model promotes small group learning for students, collaborative teaching teams, and robust coaching and professional development opportunities for teachers and staff. We are one of the highest performing schools in Ward 8 and proud recipients of a Bold Performance School award.

We are looking for an Elementary Dean of Culture who is deeply committed to students, has a passion for academic rigor and civic leadership, and wants to work closely with their colleagues to continue to build our program for Ingenuity Prep's students and families during the school year.

    WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

    • Mission: We're closing the opportunity gap. Students and families in Southeast D.C. have too few options for high-quality elementary, middle, and high schools. Ingenuity Prep aspires to right this systemic injustice providing an exemplary educational option for Southeast D.C.'s students and families.
    • Model: We pair high expectations with high support. Too often, our students are underestimated. At Ingenuity Prep, an innovative teacher development model, paired with best-in-class training from strong instructional leaders, allows us to grow great teachers who, ultimately, lead high-expectation and high-support classrooms.
    • Results: Our students are defying expectations. Ingenuity Prep's students outperform their neighborhood peers on rigorous, national, college-track assessments. Already out-performing many of their more privileged peers around the city, in the coming years, Ingenuity Prep's students will provide an expectation-defying and achievement-gap-closing proof point — showing what our kids are capable of when we provide the right opportunities, expectations, and support.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

As the Elementary Dean of Culture , you will:

    • Along with the Academy Leadership Team, share responsibility for ensuring the school's cultivation of a joyous, robust student culture through the implementation of Responsive Classroom practices and our school-wide behavior management plan.
    • Manage one (1) School Culture Associate through formal and informal coaching, professional development, and consistent actionable feedback that will allow the SCA to maintain high expectations for students, lead prosocial small group work with students, and respond effectively to tier 3 behaviors.
    • Regularly support classroom teachers through real-time coaching and professional development; provide teachers with actionable feedback that allows them to be proactive and/or responsive using the least invasive strategies possible- focusing on upholding the sanctity of instructional time.
    • Regularly support students and families through community and restorative conversations, peer mediation, conferencing, and intervention.
    • Collaborate with Ingenuity Prep's instructional leadership to identify proactive and responsive behavioral practices and strategies that will best support our teachers and students.
    • Develop and implement existing school-wide celebrations and traditions as part of developing positive school culture.
    • In collaboration with our student support team, lead the behavior RTI process to develop individualized behavior plans for students and track their progress toward goals, modifying when necessary.
    • Build strong relationships with students and families.
    • Provide emotional constancy and support for your team.
    • Work intentionally to create an exemplary staff culture in which teachers can grow and thrive.

    WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Ingenuity Prep may be the right fit for you if:

    • You love working with kids and families and believe deeply in all students' potential to succeed.
    • You have experience in a low-income school.
    • You believe effective instruction is full of joy and rigor.
    • You have experience implementing Responsive Classrooms structures (morning meeting, community circles, individual conferencing, etc).
    • You want to work closely with your peers to implement positive school-wide structures to create a joyful, positive, and productive school culture.
    • You believe that school communities should have high expectations, high accountability, and high support.
    • You want to work in a feedback-rich culture, and are eager to grow your practice as well as the practice of teachers.
    • You have deep experience using academic and behavioral data to drive whole-group and small-group intervention and partnering with families as part of supporting student success.
    • You have a Bachelor's degree and, ideally, a graduate degree in education.
