    Job Description

    Speech and Language Pathologist

    The Speech and Language Pathologist is responsible for providing diagnostic, habilitative, instructional and consultative services for students with communicative needs and disorders.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop a balanced program for oral language development and improvement.
    2. Provide therapeutic programs tailored to individual student needs through direct and consultative services.
    3. Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring students with suspected speech and language impairments.
    4. Conduct thorough assessments and diagnoses of speech, language and hearing impairments to determine their impact on educational, behavioral, social-emotional, and vocational development.
    5. Distinguish between speech differences due to cultural factors and impairments.
    6. Make proper referrals to Early Intervention Teams and/or PPT as needed.
    7. Develop and implement individualized therapy programs, classroom modifications, and suggestions for accommodations to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
    8. Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement therapy goals and provide support.
    9. Provide information, resources, and support to parents and families when appropriate.
    10. Offer professional development, consultation, co-teaching, and modeling techniques to enhance student skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, thinking, problem solving, interpersonal relations, and literacy development.
    11. Keep thorough records/logs for individual students receiving therapy.
    12. Conduct screenings and maintain lists of referred, screened, and eligible students.
    13. Collaborate with staff and families to determine the need for augmentative communication systems and assessment.
    14. Monitor hearing of students as needed and procure amplification devices and in-service training for involved staff.

    Terms of employment include a ten-month year with salary and work year established by the Board. Automobile travel may be necessary when assigned to multiple buildings.
