    Description

    Job Summary:

    The Mental Health Counselor enhances the quality of life of the Tribe and its members through the delivery of culturally appropriate mental health treatment, crisis intervention, prevention and education. This position promotes the role of mental health in daily life, and builds positive community support systems under the supervision of the Wellness Program Director and the guidance of the Children & Family Services Director.

    Duties Include:
    • Clinical Counseling: Conducts one on one, family and group counseling sessions. Determines appropriate treatment, necessary referrals, and protective or court-ordered compliance reporting.
    • Community Development: Supports Tribal community development efforts by participating in special events and other efforts, applying professional knowledge and skills.
    • Documentation of Services: Regularly documents, assesses and monitors the progress of clients and reviews file documentation; seeks pre-authorization approval from insurance.
    • Meetings: Attends and participates in various community meetings and staff committees whose goals directly or indirectly relate to the Mental Health program's objectives. These meetings include mental health team staffings, regular staff psychiatrist consultations, Community task meetings, Children & Family Services Department meetings, Wellness Program meetings, and periodic consultations with other Tribal Operations staff.
    • Personal Contacts: Maintains regular contacts of a positive nature with clients, clients' families, staff, community members, Tribal staff, various outside agencies, and others to accomplish program objectives and preserve good public relations.
    • Reporting: Produces and distributes numerous reports. Reports include weekly Wellness logs submitted to Wellness Program Office Manager; daily maintenance of thoroughly documented, compliant client files; quarterly Medicaid Match forms and others. Makes mandatory reports as required by licensure/law.
    • Maintains Confidentiality: Abides by Tribal confidentiality policies and procedures; abides by federal, state and local privacy laws where agreeable by Tribal code or agreement.
    • Other Duties as Assigned.
    Qualifications:
    • Counseling: Requires minimum of two years supervised work experience in counseling families, couples and children. Master of Arts Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling or Psychology is required.
    • Licensing/Certification: Requires Washington State license as MFT, LCSW or LMHC. Maintain Department of Healths required CEUs each year (These CEUs will be paid for by the program, but actual certification is the financial responsibility of the counselor).
    • Personal Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills are required, as well as the ability to learn word processing, spread sheet and other software programs.
    • Other: Must pass a criminal background check
    Requirements:
    • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and talk or hear.
    • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand and reach with hands and arms.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    Travel Requirements:

    Local, Statewide and out of state travel may be required.
