    Job Overview

    Pharmacy Technician Associate has a provisional PHAT certification. Works under the direction of certified Pharmacy Technician or a licensed pharmacist to learn the job skills of a pharmacy technician and prepares for PHAT certification exam. This position performs and assists with variety of technical procedures to support hospital pharmacy operations.

    Fast-paced inpatient pharmacy environment. Core responsibilities of this role include:
    o Non-sterile and sterile compounding.
    o Pharmaceutical math calculation proficiency.
    o Transporting prescriptions and pharmacy equipment (for example, IV's, injectables, etc.) to clinics or nursing floors.
    o Answer, screen, and triage phone calls.
    o Help in training new pharmacy technicians.
    o Help other technicians in the pharmacy.
    o Repackage bulk medication stock into individually packaged units.
    o Carry out other duties and responsibilities as directed by the hospital pharmacist or pharmacy leadership.
    o Communication and collaboration skills.

    Additional Information

    Department Name: Pharmacy
    Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
    Hours per week: PRN (as needed)
    Shift: Variable, rotating day and evening shifts weekly as determined by department need.
    Shift Times: 5:00am-1:30pm, 6:00am-2:30pm, 2:00pm-10:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm
    Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend per month (every 4th weekend), rotation determined by business need and training
    Holiday Requirement: 2 major holidays per year

    This position start at $19.00/hour.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION - High School Diploma or Equivalent
    CERTIFICATION - Provisional State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHATP) Certificate or within 30 days of hire

    Responsibilities

    POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

    a.) Neonate - <30 days
    b.) Infancy - >30 days to 1yr
    c.) Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs
    d.) Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs
    e.) School age - >5yrs to 13yrs
    f.) Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs
    g.) Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

    1. Prepares preparing unit-dose nonhazardous and hazardous medications and drug supplies for dispensing as directed by a licensed pharmacist.
    2. Follows security/storage requirements of all medications including temperature monitoring.
    3. Takes inventory and analyzes patient-care area medication supply; replaces outdated medications; replaces depleted inventory; performs cycle count. Independently performs inspections for medication outdates.
    4. Restocks and delivers medications to patient care areas or clinics, as assigned, including automated dispensing machines.
    5. Prepares non-parenteral nonhazardous and hazardous medications for dispensing including controlled substances; delivers medications.
    6. Assists in preparation of parenteral medications for dispensing including controlled substances and may include any specialty area (such as chemotherapy, etc.) competency; maintains all required records for controlled substances.
    7. Assists in preparation of medications for dispensing through pharmacy software while verifying all lot and expiration numbers; learns the dispense prep/dispense check process in Epic when preparing medications.
    8. Learns and applies standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications.
    9. Performs arithmetic calculations for usual dosage determinations required in medication and solution preparation.
    10. Maintains inventory and supplies in assigned pharmacy area; ensures all inventory has a validate barcode process completed per established guidelines and procedures.
    11. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, environmental and infection control standards, adheres to regulatory requirements and maintains environmental cleanliness of the pharmacy areas in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.
    12. Assists with charging and crediting of medication returns.
    13. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
    14. Maintains daily workflow to meet established priorities and production requirements and assists with daily operations tasks utilizing assigned applications and software.

    Salary Information

    Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $38,363.48 to $57,545.22
    Hourly Salary Range: $18.44 to $27.67
