Job DescriptionHalifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the seasonal position of Lifeguard/Instructor/Evening and Weekend Supervisor – Cole Harbour Outdoor Pool.

The Lifeguard / Instructor ensures pool safety through supervision and public education. The Lifeguard / Instructor also performs lifeguard duties such as checking and maintaining equipment; performing safety supervision; proactively intervening in emergency situations; providing water rescue, first aid and follow-up; maintaining in service training requirements and personal fitness levels as outlined and/or performs swimming instructor duties such as teaching lessons; educating swimmers about hazards and safety; carrying out rescues and follow-up; maintaining reports; planning special events, etc. The Lifeguard / Instructor supports persons with disabilities (e.g. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medication, etc.) in programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Holds a current National Lifeguard Service Award, Standard First Aid, CPR and Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
- Previous NLS Waterfront experience an asset.
- All candidates who meet the basic qualifications must participate in a Fitness Test consisting of a 500 meter swim.
- Previous experience working with persons with disabilities and supervisory skills considered an asset.
- Copies of qualifications must be submitted upon hiring.
Physical Requirements:
- A physical screening is part of the application process and includes:
- 400 meter timed swim,
- 50 meter swim and carry,
- 3 kilometer outdoor run.
- Successful completion training requirements.
- Successful completion of Lifeguard Waterfront Certification and Oxygen Administration.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer's discretion.

WORK STATUS: Seasonal - July 1st 2026 to September 1, 2026.
HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule / overtime may be required.
SALARY: Non Union; $19.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay).
WORK LOCATION: 609 Colby Drive, Dartmouth.
