    PURPOSE STATEMENT

    A Registered Nurse Circulator is a professional Registered Nurse (RN) who directs and/or performs nursing care to patients of various ages undergoing a procedure in the Operating Room or Endoscopy. The RN in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary care team, performs job responsibilities in accordance with all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies, such as Joint Commission and CMS. They actively participate in outstanding customer service, accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all and acts as an advocate for the patient in the operating room or endoscopy procedure rooms. Work environment is an operating room area or endoscopy suite. The RN must have the ability to help with patients transferring from bed to bed. Movement of equipment needed for each type of procedure which may require assistance of two people. Working in dim lighted rooms for some types of procedures i.e. laparoscopic or endoscopy procedures.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Ensure patient needs are met in accordance with the instructions of the surgeon and facilities policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrate respect for co-workers and assist in maintaining a positive work environment.
    • Communicate with courtesy when interacting with patients, physicians, or vendors.
    • Coordinate and performs activities appropriate within the OR.
    • Provide direct clinical care to patients in surgical room.
    • Prepare the operating room for procedures each day assuming all supplies, implants & equipment is present and ready.
    • Assist with efficient Operating Room turnover between cases to prepare for the next case.
    • Document procedures electronically according to policies and procedures.
    • Assist in maintaining preference cards and charges for procedures.
    • Identify any potential unsafe situation and notify supervisor immediately.
    • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
    • Perform other essential duties as assigned.
    Shift Requirements
    • Call required every 6th week day.
    • Call required every 6th weekend.
    Requirements

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
    • Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri.
    • Knowledgeable regarding Operating procedures or willing to learn.
    • Knowledgeable regarding computer documentation.
    • Current BLS required.
    • ACLS preferred.
    • PALS preferred.
    • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
    • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
    • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
    • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
    • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
    • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
    • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
