- Supports new product development and laboratory functions under the supervision of immediate supervisor or manager
- Responsible for analyzing samples which include viscosity, color, cross sectional analysis, temperature, density, reflection and appearance through numerous instrumentation methods, to include but not limited to Microscopy, UV-Vis, IR, Color, Spectrophotometry, Viscometry, Particle Size, and Rheology.
- Prepares coating formulations in lab and pilot scale. Runs pilots in a manufacturing setting.
- Submits activity / test reports with recommendations to the R&D Manager.
- Tests coating formulations, films, fibers, and textiles using various analytical tools.
- Conducts raw material testing and assists in testing manufacturing coatings and products. Analyzes retrieved data and prepares reports for laboratory management.
- Performs calibration, maintenance, upkeep and cleanliness of instruments and the lab.
- Supports manufacturing product and process improvements and troubleshooting any related issues.
- All other duties as assigned
- Degree or associate degree in Chemistry is preferred.
- Excellent understanding of math, chemistry, and the ability to use various software and computer system programs.
- Good eye for color and coating formulation experience. Understanding of Lab Color Space.
- Strong laboratory skills with ability to work on multiple projects and tasks.
- Ability to work on own initiative, multitask, prioritize work and willingness to change director and focus to meet shifting organizational and business demands.
- An effective team player to work with different departments within the business.
- Good experience in instrumentation with a focus on spectrophotometers, colorimeters, rheometers, microscopy, etc.
- Must be reliable, punctual and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Annual base salary range: $79,000- $103,000
- Bonus target range: 10-20%

Position Overview
The Test Lab Technician position is a full-time, exempt position aimed to aid in new product development, preparation of coating formulations, raw material and product testing, and pilot runs in a manufacturing setting.
