Description
The Clinical Informatics Specialist reports to the Director of Informatics and Clinical Information Systems. The Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for participating in the planning, development, training, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of PCS users granted access to Clinical information systems and has 24 hour accountability for clinical information systems within the department of Patient Care Services Acts as a liaison for additional clinical informatics systems as requested. The clinical Informatics specialist is responsible for facilitating communication from the clinical end users across the patient care services departments while working collaboratively and directly with vendors and technical experts. The Clinical Informatics Specialists works to optimize the clinical design to meet the needs of a large group of interdisciplinary end users, including physicians, nurses, ancillary, clinical and administrative staff. The Clinical Informatics Specialist participates on a variety of clinical informatics teams to establish teamwork and provide expertise in collaboration with the Director of Informatics and Clinical Information Systems and the assigned Project Managers.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served .
Establishes goals to improve patient care outcomes as it relates to the use of clinical information systems in Patient Care Services Department.
Collaborates with Patient Care services team to accomplish departmental mission and goals.
Supports Unit Based Performance Improvement Programs through knowledge of clinical information systems/programs
Assists in the planning and monitoring of the informatics budget in conjunction with the VP, Patient care Services and Director of Informatics and Clinical Information Systems
Serves as a preceptor/role model in clinical informatics for staff and affiliating students
Identifies training needs of the clinical system end-users, creates and executes training courses.
Collaborates with clinical staff to develop and manage IT projects and tasks for system enhancement, upgrades and new systems
Demonstrates knowledge in patient care processes and clinician workflow and leads initiatives to promote effective process design , development and implementation of the Electronic medical record and other technologies
Collaborates with clinical staff in researching, developing and selecting new technologies that facilitate delivery of patient care.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Informatics required. Master's Degree in Nursing Informatics or related information systems field preferred.
Active Registered Nurse NY State License.
Five (5) years clinical experience in an acute care health setting. At least two (2) years of clinical informatics nursing experience providing a leadership role implementing and supporting health care clinical systems/ clinical information systems. Must have broad knowledge of hospital operations, the delivery of patient care services, new trends in clinical practice and information systems and be able to apply the knowledge to support nursing practice in a variety of clinical areas/settings.
BLS, SPECIALTY CERTIFICATIONS AS REQUIRED.
