    Description

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Metal Technician plays a crucial role in repairing assigned vehicles to restore them to their pre-accident condition, aligning with industry standards and factory specifications.

    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Repair damaged vehicles following technical information sheets and APS guidelines as per repair orders (RO).
    • Make decisions on whether to repair or replace components considering safety, costs, and cycle time.
    • Disassemble upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic systems, and trim for vehicle access.
    • Conduct structural repairs, airbag replacements, and some mechanical tasks.
    • Perform various sheet metal welding and metal finishing techniques.
    • Refine repaired surfaces using a variety of power and hand tools.
    • Collaborate with the Production Manager and Estimators to update on repair progress.
    • Meet or exceed CARSTAR's standards for tech efficiency, cycle time, and return rate.
    • Adhere to safety protocols, proper repair procedures, and hazardous waste disposal regulations.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools are returned and parts/materials carts are orderly.
    • Follow CARSTAR's quality control procedures and inspections.
    • Execute tasks safely to prevent injuries to oneself and others.
    • Participate in daily release meetings.
    • Fulfill any additional assigned responsibilities.

    EXPERIENCE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    • 2-5 years of auto body collision repair experience.
    • High School diploma/GED required, graduate from a collision tech program preferred.
    • I-CAR certification or ASE training is mandatory.
    • I-CAR welding and ASE Structural (B4) certification are highly desired.
    • Familiarity with frame and measuring equipment.
    • History of working both independently and within a team.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
    • Must have own set of tools in good working condition.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, and pull.
    • Prolonged periods of kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping.
    • Carry and lift heavy objects (up to 80lbs).
    • Manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination for equipment operation.
    • Perform repetitive motions.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Exposure to paint, fumes, and particles.
    • Dust and dirt environment.
    • Handling chemicals and toxins.
    • Fluctuating temperatures.
    • Intermittent noise levels.
