    Position Summary

    We are looking for a Director, Database Reliability Engineering to join our Production Engineering team. As a leader of this team, you will have an opportunity to shape Shein's production environment and culture as we grow. Production Engineering team at SHEIN are hybrid software/systems engineers whose overarching goal is to ensure that Production Services are "Always On." They strive to build the most reliable and performant systems on the planet. They are tasked with driving forward the operability of the platform to drive down the number of incidents while reducing MTTR. To accomplish this, the team combines software development, networking and systems engineering expertise, and a strong desire to be challenged by problems of scale and complexity to make our service better for our customers.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE) team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
    • Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of DBRE engineers, empowering them to excel in their roles and drive continuous improvement.
    • Database Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable database solutions, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity across all environments.
    • Automation: Drive automation initiatives to streamline database operations, improve efficiency, and reduce manual intervention in database maintenance and deployment processes.
    • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize database performance, implementing proactive measures to enhance scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Incident Management: Develop and implement incident management processes to quickly resolve database issues and minimize impact on business operations.
    • Security and Compliance: Ensure database security and compliance with industry regulations and best practices, implementing robust security measures and access controls.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, infrastructure, and security, to ensure alignment on database reliability and performance goals

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent technical discipline.
    • More than 6 years of MySQL specific database experience.
    • 6+ years of experience using AWS/GCP or any other cloud provider.
    • A solid understanding of distributed/replicated database topologies.
    • Experience working in AWS (EC2 / EBS / S3 Snapshots / Aurora / RDS).
    • Systematic problem-solving approach, combined with a sense of ownership and drive.
    • Track record monitoring and analyzing system performance, isolating issues or bottlenecks that could impact reliability, performance and scalability.
    • Deep understanding of Linux system, ability to deploy open-source software independently.
    • Proficient in more than one scripting language (shell/perl/python, etc.), familiar with python development language is preferred.
    • A strong desire to be challenged by problems of scale and complexity to make our service better for our customers.
    • The ability to remain calm in the face of extreme crises.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively with geographically remote teams.

    Nice to have

    • 6+ years of experience managing MySQL / Percona Server 5.7 / 8, Aurora at scale.
    • Experience with Atlassian tools, such as Confluence and Jira.

    Pay : $168,200.00 min - $236,500.00 max annually, Bonus & RSU offered.
