    About CIRS:

    The Cultural Institutions Retirement System ("CIRS") administers three multiemployer plans (a defined benefit pension plan, 401(k) savings plan and group life insurance plan) for approximately 200 daycare centers and 50 cultural institutions (the largest being the American Museum of Natural History and the Wildlife Conservation Society) in the New York City area.     The Role:

    The Controller performs in a multi-faceted role. Key responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

    Financial

    • Being hands on at all levels of the finance function including payables and receivables.
    • Determination and allocation of expenses to appropriate plan/trust.
    • Completion of month end management accounting including analysis and reporting.
    • General ledger close at month end and leading the accruals, journals and prepayment process throughout the reporting period.
    • Preparation of budgets and internal financial statements.
    • Management of the company bank account and providing insightful and accurate cashflow reports.
    • Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
    • Manages the annual audits of the three plans and related Trusts.
    • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
    • Prepares reports for the Administrative Committee, Investment Committee, Annual Meeting and Quarterly Board Meetings.
    • Monitor employer and employee contributions, collection, and investment.

    Investments

    • Assists Executive Director in monitoring/analyzing Investment performance of the Plans and determining that the overall investment strategy objectives are being met.
    • In collaboration with CIRS Investment Consultants monitor CIRS specific investment programs.
    • Review investment policy statements, investment philosophies, and other investment policy and strategy documents.

    Human Resources

    • Assists and ensures compliance with CIRS Personnel Policies.
    • Payroll liaison with external payroll provider, currently Paychex.
    • Maintains personnel records and assists Executive Director in managing benefits for internal staff.
    • Handling employee inquiries as needed with respect to payroll and/or benefits.
    • Working with brokers to coordinate annual open enrollment for CIRS staff.

    The Requirements:

    · Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.

    · Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role.

    · General Human Resources experience.

    · Experience with Pension Plan investments.

    · Excellent analytical skills.

    · General Human Resources experience.

    · Mathematical and organizational skills.

    · Written and verbal communication skills.

    · Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel.
