    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Administers and ensures compliance of all interscholastic policies and procedures defined by the New Mexico Activities Association, New Mexico HS Coaches Association, the National Federation of High School Associations and the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Establishes, administers and ensures compliance of school-based athletic program policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist principal in the supervision and evaluation of coaches through regular monitoring and observation of coaches in practice and game situations.
  • Preparation of documentation to assist principal in processes of hiring and evaluation.
  • Evaluates candidates for coaching positions and serves as a member of the selection committee.
  • Recommends improvements to facilities and equipment.
  • Assists in the publication of interscholastic game schedules and ensures cancellations and postponements are announced in a timely manner to all appropriate personnel after consultation with district athletic administration, principal and appropriate coaches.
  • Ensures game official assignments have been confirmed and officials are present and available at assigned locations and times.
  • Serves as mediator to resolve disputes between coaches, players, parents and/or administrator.
  • Ensures gate receipts are properly documented and accounted for and identifies, analyzes and implements alternative funding programs to support interscholastic athletics.
  • Submits financial reports as required by school, district and other appropriate organizations in a timely manner.
  • Confirms arrangements for all interscholastic athletic events such as transportation, lodging and meals, when required.
  • Receives and reviews equipment order quotations from coaches, evaluates requests and approves appropriate orders.
  • Attends all on-campus athletic contests and arranges for proper supervision of home athletic contests by administrative personnel.
  • Acts as tournament/event manager for league and tournament playoff activities assigned to the district.
  • Provides accommodations for radio and television broadcasts and ensures public address system is operational for on-campus games/events.
  • Maintains records including player and team results, medical examinations, insurance forms, grades, consent forms, payments, and other required documentation.
  • Maintains permanent records for each sport including wins and losses, outstanding records and lettermen.
  • Maintains records on athletic suspensions and expulsions and due process hearings.
  • Determines and reports scholastic eligibility of student athletes following established procedures.
  • Ensures coaches have received proper training, secured necessary certifications and attended appropriate clinics.
  • Coordinates the year-round use of all school athletic facilities with appropriate school administrator.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are properly cleaned, repaired, stored and inventoried.
  • Works in conjunction with school athletic trainer to establish safety, health and medical emergency procedures and confirms attendance of athletic trainer at on-campus athletic events and other assigned events/sites.
  • Establishes and administers consistent school-based awards program that includes but is not limited to: lettering requirements, recognition publication and display, etc.
  • Collects, manages and publicizes information to promote and recognize the school's interscholastic athletic program and its athletes.
  • Serves as primary contact, in conjunction with appropriate school administrator, for maintenance crews working on athletic fields, gymnasiums and other athletic facilities.
  • Arranges for athletic support personnel at on-campus athletic events.
  • Represents the school at various athletic meetings.
  • Assists in developing and administering an equitable plan for all athletic fundraising activities within school/district guidelines and under the supervision of the principal.
  • Promotes sportsmanship and character education.
  • PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

    The minimum expectations for this job are as follows:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Efficient computer/technology skills including capabilities to use e-mail, web-based software, etc.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making, team building and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
  • Previous experience as a coach and competitor preferred.
  • Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, child abuse/neglect and substance abuse.
  • REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: The minimum requirements for this job are as follows:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Valid New Mexico teaching certificate.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical examination.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with insurable driving record.
