• DayJob Description SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Certified Outpatient Coder will be responsible to the hospital, patient, medical staff, and other providers to provide accurate and timely coding of diagnostic data.

The Outpatient Coder is accountable for conversion of diagnoses into codes using an international classification of diseases on outpatient diagnostic encounters. The Coder will be responsible for completion of all abstracting and ensure accuracy of data. The Outpatient Coder must act independently in highly diversified and complex situations. The Coder must be able to make sound decisions objectively and follow-through. Initiative is required in obtaining diagnoses from physicians and other providers.

Outpatient Coders deal with confidential and sensitive information and must apply strict HIPAA guidelines in dealing with protected health information.

The Outpatient Coder must meet Coding Department established productivity and accuracy standard.

The Coder must be able to maintain cooperative working relationships not only in the Coding Department, but also with other internal and external customers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAssociate's degree in Health Information Management, Coding, or equivalent field.
Ability to maintain educational requirements of certifications. Two years coding or revenue cycle experience preferred.

Valid and active COC, RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CPC, or CPC-H certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire into position)Requirements No additional requirements from any stated in the above description.
