    Innovation Engineering Co-op Summary of Job Description The Exploratory Microbiology team works and behaves with an entrepreneurial spirit to generate new product concepts for bioMérieux's development pipeline.We are currently seeking an Engineering Co-op to assist in the conceptualization, design, and development of high quality medical diagnostic products.The Engineering Co-op will be supervised and mentored by the Director, Engineers, and Scientists in the Exploratory Microbiology team. Main Accountabilities:
  • Works within a cross-functional department of engineers, chemists, and biologists to assist in the definition, proof of concept, design, development, implementation and/or support of technical or business solutions.
  • Assumes responsibility for the identification of opportunities and the related problem solving in order to identify the necessary activities to provide a solution.
  • Ensures quality of deliverable by following good design practices and good scientific practices to ensure scientific relevance.
  • Creates appropriate documentation such as scientific communication, reports, meeting reports and other relevant reports within the function
  • Position Requirements:
  • Ability to apply skills learned from multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong cross-functional collaborative design and project skills.
  • Conceptualizes, analyzes, tests, and optimizes mechanisms, components, and assemblies.
  • Ability to assess design choices with respect to functional requirements and business constraints.
  • Required experience, skills and qualifications:
  • Education/Experience:Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Candidate should possess one of the following skill sets:
  • Training/proficiency in Mechanical CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Candidate must have a growing understanding of mechanical engineering design principles.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems (e.g. ability to comprehend wiring diagrams).
  • OR
  • Proficiency with algorithm development for image analysis
  • Experience working with machine vision or other imaging systems
  • Experience working with optical system hardware
  • Desired experience, skills and qualifications:
  • Interest in clinical microbiology and/or medical devices
