    Duties

  • Serves as subject matter expert on all matters involving sage grouse on BLM CA managed lands in California and northwestern Nevada.
  • Assists field offices in developing monitoring plans and analyzing data for inclusion in planning documents.
  • Reviews current research and inventory monitoring data from the field regarding Sage Grouse habitat and management plans and presents information to leadership.
  • Coordinates issues with local interest groups, Tribal Councils, and other federal agencies regarding impact of the application of biological decisions, habitat conservation, and laws and regulations.
  • Negotiates cooperative agreements and memorandums of understanding with specialist interest groups, and other organizations.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations to field offices on planning documents, use authorizations, feasibility studies, and other activities regarding Sage Grouse and Sagebrush Obligate Species.
  • Evaluates procedures, standards, and compliance of the District and Field level office through technical program reviews and makes recommendations.
  • Applies extensive knowledge of Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Planning Regulations, Endangered Species Act (ESA), and additional resource management program policy and regulation.
  • As a recognized authority of sage plan implementation will lead project implementation teams to identify workload adjustments and coordination necessary to maintain implementation action timelines and consistency.
  • Coordinates the preparation, presentation, and communication of strategy related information to internal and external entities.
