    Position Summary:
    Storm Water and Raw Water Technician

    The City of Aspen Parks Department is offering an amazing outdoor related opportunity to be a part of the City's storm water and raw water delivery systems.

    This position requires an individual that can work independently, is detail oriented and friendly.

    The focus of this position is to keep water flows from City managed headgates continually moving, with specific attention to allotted amounts determined by the State of Colorado for the benefit of those recipients that have established water rights.

    To achieve this there are maintenance repairs, debris removal and water flow adjustment tasks that must be completed daily.

    In addition, the City of Aspen has a system of storm water vaults and catch basins that are designed to keep harmful toxins out of our river systems and are in need of oversight throughout the summer.

    Use of City managed cars/trucks and work carts are supplied for transport throughout work environment. Work in a highly successful and innovative Parks Department that values proper safety guidelines and worker enjoyment. Full-time four day, part-time and possible flexible schedule opportunities available. Carpool opportunities available and for those that complete season commitment there is an end of season bonus.


    Supervision Exercised and Received:
    Position works under the direct supervision of Storm water Specialist.


    Essential Job Functions:

    Storm Water and Raw Water Technician:

    • Maintain Storm water and Raw water assets (City stormwater catch basins and raw water ditch tributaries)
    • Headgate maintenance and distribution oversight with respect to predetermined flow amounts
    • Ability to work independently and to make critical decisions
    • Daily operation of trimmers, cars/trucks, electric and gas work carts
    • Frequent and professional interaction with the general public
    • Must follow proper safety guidelines and responsibility for use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

    Essential Physical Requirements:

    Visual Acuity:
    Ability to bring objects into focus.


    Balancing:
    Maintaining equilibrium.


    Bending:
    Bending or position oneself to move an object from one level to another.

    Carrying:
    Occasionally up to 50 lbs.

    Crouching:
    Bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

    Climbing:
    Ascending or descending stationary objects.

    Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination:
    Performing work through using two or more body parts or other devices.

    Gripping/Grasping:
    Ability to apply pressure with fingers and palm.

    Handling:
    Seizing, holding, grasping, through use of hands, fingers, or other means.

    Hearing:
    Perceiving and comprehending the nature and direction of sounds.

    Kneeling:
    Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees

    Lifting:
    Occasionally up to 50 lbs. such as open space signs, posts, interpretive displays, bags of native seed and fertilizer, plant materials, etc.

    Pushing/Pulling:

    Ability to use upper extremities to exert force in order to press, draw, drag or haul objects in a sustained motion.


    Reaching:
    Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction.

    Repetitive motions:
    Making frequent or continuous movements.

    Sitting:
    Remaining in a stationary position.

    Standing:
    Ability to sustain position for a period of time.

    Stooping:
    Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

    Talking:
    Communicating ideas or exchanging information.
