    Job DescriptionInova Fairfax Hospital is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Registered Nurse Unit Supervisor to join our Psychiatry Observation (EmPath) unit on the day shift.

    This is a full-time position with a 3 x 12-hour shift schedule (7:00 am to 7:30 pm). Previous psychiatric experience in an inpatient setting is strongly preferred.

    The Psychiatry Observation (EmPath)Unit:

    Our Psychiatry Observation or EmPath unit-short for Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing unit-is a specialized 14-bay unit located in our modern Emergency Department.

    It is designed to address mental health emergencies.

    Unlike standard emergency departments, our EmPATH unit offers a more compassionate and therapeutic approach, delivering acute behavioral healthcare to patients aged 18 and older who are in crisis in a calm, therapeutic setting.

    Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 to 5-7At Inova Fairfax Hospital, our inpatient units are designed to provide patients and families with safety, structure, and stabilization.

    Our interdisciplinary team works together to ensure the best possible care for our patients. Therapeutic group activities, including creative art therapy, are integral to our patient-centered approach.

    The average nurse-to-patient ratio on this unit is 6:1, ensuring that you can provide personalized care to those who need it most.

    The Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Supervisor serves as a front line leader who is accountable for delivering highly reliable results related to quality and best practices to improve the clinical operations of the unit.

    Embraces, uses and understands the research behind nursing practice and quality tools. Supports unit based shared governance and decentralized decision making structures and processes.

    Acts as a role model who leads by example in delivering "Service Always" and in making patient experience a priority on units of responsibility.

    Supervisor Duties:


    Staffing, patient review and placement, serve as a resource to Charge Nurse and staff, responds to all events on units, assists with orientation, conducts chart and environmental audits per TJC standards.

    Coaching and education of staff. Can act as Charge Nurse or take patients if needed.


    Requirements:
    Certification
    • Basic Life Support; Specialty certification (as required by unit) within 12 months of hire; Completion of a revised Charge Nurse workshop within 3 months of hireLicensure
    • Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of VirginiaExperience 1 year of experience as a Registered NurseEducation
