    Description
    • Comply with all state, local and federal regulations relating to drug dispensing, including appropriate handling of drug products, adherence to security procedures and completion of necessary documentation. This includes appropriate control and dispensing of controlled dangerous substances.
    • Interpret medication orders/prescriptions, both verbal and written, and enter into electronic patient medication profile accurately.
    • Prepare and dispense medications per orders/prescriptions written by licensed prescribers according to established policies and procedures.
    • Review patient medical and pharmaceutical records and monitors for efficient drug therapy, drug interaction, adverse drug reactions, and contraindication.
    • Supervise and direct activities of ancillary personnel; pharmacy technicians, clerks, couriers, cashiers.
    • Provide drug information to patients and their families through counseling and education.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, visitor and employee information. Comply with the HIPAA Privacy Rule standards.
    • Communicate with third party providers to determine eligibility and obtain prior authorization.
    • Communicate directly with both physicians and nurses regarding questions concerning patient drug therapy.
    • Assist with purchasing activities and maintenance of adequate inventory level.
    • Maintain the prescription area in an orderly and sanitary manner.
    • Maintain records of controlled substances
    • Oversee prescription processing activities to ensure that quality and standard of practice is maintained.
    • Inspect medication areas for outdated medications, proper storage of medications, proper medication administration records and availability of reference materials.
    • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures. Comply with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire and infection control.
    • Organize and prioritize work to ensure pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.
    • Provide courteous, cooperative and timely service to patients, visitors and staff. Demonstrate
      sound professional judgement consistent with clinical/academic background.
    • Administer immunizations.
