    Your New Role...

    This editor is an excellent communicator who is comfortable handling breaking news and thrives on finding opportunities to better serve and grow our digital audience. The AM editor is a key point of contact in our 24/7 global news operation and is tasked with moving major stories that develop from Washington or on the campaign trail in close collaboration with our newsgathering and digital programming partners, as well as ensuring we start each day in a competitive space across the crowded news landscape.

    Your Role Accountabilities...

    • Edit breaking news and features from CNN Politics and other journalists from throughout the organization
    • Assist with the live stories that are an essential part of our breaking news coverage.
    • Write as needed -- your byline may occasionally be seen solo or as a contributing writer
    • Elevate CNN's storytelling across digital platforms


    All CNN news editors are dedicated to to making sure our stories are accurate and fair so that we continue to grow the trust between CNN and our audiences. This editor will often serve as the first guiding hand on breaking news headlines and the final set of eyes before a story is distributed to millions of people worldwide. Some days may be dominated by a single, fast-moving story. Others will include handling a wide range of pieces in different forms and formats – news features, newsletters, and visual interactives.

    Qualifications & Experience...

    • Willingness to work early mornings, with potential schedule changes around major events
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
    • Experience editing fast-moving breaking news
    • A clear understanding of style and grammar
    • Interest in politics and policy stories
    • Experience helping writers frame stories for a national audience
    • At least 4 years of editorial experience
    • College degree or equivalent preferred
