    Position Summary:

    The Surgical Technician provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The surgical technician performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with center policy and appropriate laws and regulations.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Ensures that the appropriate financial management tasks of the triple match are completed in a timely manner to support the correct inventory on financials.
    • Coordinates and maintains the department's utilization of the computerized inventory system to maintain over $1 million in physical inventory with PAR levels.
    • Leads strategic initiatives for the materials department to support the facility strategic plan.
    • Monitor and maintain departments' understanding of emergency procedures, infection control protocols, universal precautions and safety procedures and policies.
    • Leads the Materials Department and manages performance by coaching and mentoring team members.
    • Supervise, train, evaluate, and direct all job responsibilities of the Material's Coordinator.
    • Works effectively in stressful situations, with minimal situations, and in a team environment. Fosters a positive, caring, responsive, and professional environment with all people in a helpful and courteous manner.
    • Ensures there is timely communication regarding inventory status with key personnel.
    • Coordinates, negotiates, and manages service and vendor agreements/contracts.
    • Serves as a liaison between company representatives (vendors) and facility to meet equipment needs.
    • Coordinates and oversees bi-annual physical inventory of facility.
    • Seeks alternative vendors as needed.
    • Obtains and evaluates products and pricing information.
    • Performs special projects, cost comparisons, research, etc. as needed.
    • Coordinates and oversees product warnings and recalls.
    • Collaborates with Team Leaders and other key personnel on developing and managing Capital Budget, striving to minimize variances
    • Collaborates with Controller on invoice reviews to ensure vendor adherence to negotiated prices and established terms.
    • Ensures that price changes are recorded correctly in the inventory system and notifies appropriate individuals as necessary.
    • Ensures center owned and leased equipment is biomedically maintained and serviced prior to use and maintained thereafter.
    • Oversees supply rotation to eliminate outdated supplies.
    • Maintains confidentiality of Center and patient information as required by policy.
    • Actively participates in the Quality Improvement Program activities including, but not limited to, identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies.
    • Works directly with the center's Group Purchasing Organization(s) to ensure contract compliance, optimize cost savings and rebate eligibility.
    • Coordinates and oversees facility environment of care, preventative maintenance, and equipment repair needs per regulatory guidelines.
    • Actively participates in Professional Organizations, as appropriate.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to prioritize and make decisions.
    • Business acumen with the ability to develop and manage a budget.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of health care professionals, personnel, and vendors.
    • Ability to lead the Materials Department team to support the facility Strategic Plan
    • Ability to flex work hours as needed and/or requested by management.

    Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications

    • Associate Degree required
    • Bachelor's Degree preferred
    • Current BLS required (able to obtain within 6 months of hire).
    • Minimum of 2 years materials management or purchasing experience, preferably in health care.
