    is a professional engineering services firm specializing in providing services to municipal Planning, Building, and Public Works Departments throughout the United States.

    The Assistant Planner is the entry-level position within the professional planning series. It is distinguished from the Planning Technician position because it involves professional- level duties and judgment. This position level reports to senior planners. Under general supervision the Assistant Planner conducts research, analyzes and prepares reports and recommendations on planning related issues. Makes oral and written presentations and performs related professional and technical planning duties as assigned.

    Assist with planning and zoning matters at the public counter; confer with and advise architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the public regarding City development policies, standards and application requirements; review building plans, parcel maps, and subdivision proposals for compliance with appropriate zoning codes and regulations; check commercial, industrial, and residential development proposals, plans, and applications for issuance of zone clearances; process permit applications and calculate appropriate fees.

    Assist with preparing staff reports for presentation to the City Council, Planning Commission, committees, advisory boards, and other groups.

    Conduct field visits; review and conduct inspections for compliance with certificates of use, occupancies and requests for zoning or land use variances.

    Fundamental principles, practices and legislation related to urban planning, California Environmental Quality Act requirements, Housing, and the General Plan.

    Familiarity of current literature, information sources and research methods related to urban planning.
    Researches and analyzes technical and statistical information related to urban planning issues.

    Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, or GIS.

    Communicates effectively and maintain effective, positive and harmonious working relationships with citizens, City officials, staff, and others regarding a variety of City policies, procedures and practices.

    Learn and apply various codes, laws, and regulations to planning projects.
    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Minimum of 1 year of staff experience working in municipal planning and/or community development AND completion of Master's degree (preferred) from an accredited college or university with a major in urban planning or a closely related field; Minimum of - 3 years of staff experience working in municipal planning and/or community development AND completion of Bachelor's degree (required) from an accredited college or university with a major in urban planning or a closely related field.

    30 to $45 hourly; Benefits Package available including Health insurance, Vision insurance, Dental insurance, 401(k) Retirement, Flexible spending account, Paid time off.

    Full-time, 40 hours a week.
    On-site, Monday to Friday.
    Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred).
