    JOB SUMMARY: Plans, coordinates and implements nursing orientation for all new SNF employees. Assesses, formulates and evaluates continuing educational programs for nursing services in the SNF. Works with the Director of Skilled Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer to plan, implement and evaluate CNA in-services per Title 22.

    PERFORMANCE DIMENSIONS AND TASKS

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Plans, coordinates implements and evaluates hospital inservices.
    a. In-service programs are based on QA issues, new equipment, drugs, policies and nursing skills issues.
    b. Assess staff education needs.
    c. Plans, coordinates, implements nursing orientation for all new SNF employees.

    2. Plans, coordinates and evaluates annual competency skills day for all SNF staff. Assists management to develop competency evaluation.

    3. Participates in orientation and coordinates competency of skills with preceptors for new SNF employees.

    4. Participates in SNF Quarterly QA Committee reporting on:
    a. Recruitment
    b. Retention
    c. Staff Competency

    5. Works with Director of Nursing and SNF manager to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate CNA inservices/ C.E.
    a. A minimum of 24 C.E. units are offered per year.
    b. Inservice programs are based on QA issues, new equipment, drugs, policies and nursing skills issues.
    c. In-service topics shall include, but not be limited to: (1) Problems and needs of the aged, chronically ill, acutely ill and disabled patients. (2) Prevention and control of infections. (3) Interpersonal relationship and communication skills. (4) Fire prevention and safety. (5) Accident prevention and safety measures. (6) Confidentiality of patient information. (7) Preservation of patient dignity, including provision for privacy. (8) Patient rights and civil rights. (9) Signs and symptoms of cardiopulmonary distress. (10) Choking prevention and intervention.

    6. Gathers, disseminates and communicates pertinent information
    a. Attends staff meetings upon request.
    b. Obtains information presented in staff meeting when unable to attend.
    c. Attends all mandatory inservice programs.
    d. Serves on/attends appropriate hospital committees for informational purpose.
    e. Collaborates with department directors to provide, at the request of the department head, education programs as indicated.

    7. Maintains professional responsibilities to enhance Nurse Practice Act.
    a. Understands and functions within the scope of the California Nurse practice Act.
    b. Keeps all certifications current.
    c. Plans for personal change and growth based on evaluation and feedback.
    d. Participates in setting measurable goals for performance.

    8. Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates Certified Nurse Assistant Program per Title 22 as needed by the facility.
