Job summary
Ambulatory services representative performs a variety of complex administrative duties for patients in need of routine and/or urgent appointments medical procedures tests and associated ancillary services in an ambulatory in/outpatient setting.
Responsibilities
- Greets visitors and/or patients for scheduled and/or urgent care appointments and procedures.
- Confirms and verifies patient demographic and insurance information.
- Makes phone calls receives directions connects the patient's call to the provider or responds to the patient takes messages as directed schedules urgent care appointments as needed directs by clinicians schedules patients for treatment by multiple providers treatment areas arranges a variety of associated tests procedures according to established guidelines specific criteria prioritizes appointments in a manner that fosters optimum patient care efficient utilization clinical staff resources ensures tests procedural prep information is provided to patients verbally mail/patient portal necessary collaborates with insurers obtain prior-authorizations needed follows guidelines established insurers ensure pre-authorization pre-certification clinician referrals obtained prior to patient visits complies referral management regulations verifies eligibility procedures/tests from various health institutions follows up correct discrepancies facilitates prescription renewal matters via telephone fax/email within scope authority directed clinicians preps patient info clinicians scheduled visits submits electronically reviews audits billing discrepancy reports researches errors resolution directed office/clerical management maintains accurate timely records logs charges files spreadsheets requested collects co-payments daily totals submitted second tier reconciliation composes/standard form letters clinician response routine inquiries/procedures back-to-school authorizations.
