Sauder Building Products – a division of Sauder Woodworking Co. is looking for a Technical Engineer. The Technical Engineer serves as the primary technical contact to the retailer for the line of business.This role will become a resident expert in understanding the retailer's specifications and requirements and helps to develop others within the organization to become the same.
It will ensure processes are in place for all materials and components to comply with the retailer specifications.The Technical Engineer drives towards the lowest possible total cost supply of materials, components, equipment, and services in collaboration with suppliers and appropriate internal resources.
Participates and/or leads various business growth and continuous improvement opportunities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as member of the Sauder Building Products Business Leadership Team.
Keeps abreast of all documented and required material and component specifications.
Becomes a resident expert in understanding the retailer, both on a technical level and ways of working.
Develops a strong partnership relationship with technical person(s) and others and serves as the primary Sauder contact point from a technical perspective.
Collaborates with various internal, supplier, and technical resources to evaluate options to meet required material and component specifications.Works closely with the Business Compliance Officer to ensure that all suppliers, materials and components, articles, and Sauder are in continuous compliance with the retailer specifications and all related documentation is properly stored and maintained.
Assists with any non-conformance issues with Sauder-supplied product and with non-conformance issues with any respective suppliers to Sauder.Identifies, justifies, and presents material and component cost-saving initiatives for approval. Both internal Sauder cost savings initiatives as well as joint shared retailer/Sauder initiatives.
Helps to manage the transition of any material and component changes.
In collaboration with suppliers, respective technical buyers, and other internal/external resources, works on total cost improvements of related materials & components.
Also includes involvement with equipment and service purchases and improvements.Leads and/or participates in pricing negotiations with current and/or new suppliers as it relates to sourcing to lowest total cost; materials, components, equipment, and service purchases.
Tracks and verifies actual total cost savings results after implementation.In collaboration with the Sauder Director of Procurement, ensures that each major material and component can be sourced from at least two fully qualified suppliers.
Where a sole source supplier is the only option, ensures an appropriate risk management plan is established.Serves as mentor to the Focus Factory Process Specialist(s), Customer Quality and Compliance Tech(s), Leadership, and Team Members in the retailer specifications, requirements, and ways of working along with providing guidance to both on business related operational improvement initiatives.
Assists Building Products team with strategic planning, investigations, justifications, and implementations of various future growth opportunities.EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, OR
Associate's degree PLUS Minimum of 2-4 years experience, OR
Minimum of 5-7 years experience, OR
