    Background

    The Integrated Electronics Engineering Center (IEEC) is a New York State Center for Advanced Technology housed at Binghamton University. It is a constituent research center of the Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging (S3IP) Center of Excellence. The IEEC, founded in 1991, pursues research in electronics packaging with a focus on economic development for New York State and its member companies and does so with federal and state governments, industry, and academic partners to advance microelectronics research and development.

    Position Overview

    The Associate Director works under leadership of the Director to develop and implement strategic plans for the Center, and manages the day-to-day operations of the Center. The Associate Director works with affiliated faculty, research and administrative staff, over two dozen industrial partners, and Ph.D. and masters-level graduate students. The Associate Director will supervise staff including research support specialists and a company interface specialist. The Associate Director will coordinate IEEC activities with staff, initiatives, and peer research centers and labs of the S3IP, with particular focus on integration of capabilities of the Analytical and Diagnostic Lab (ADL) in support of IEEC activities.

    Summary of Responsibilities

    Under general supervision of the IEEC Director, and in coordination with S3IP Director and staff, the IEEC Associate Director will be responsible for tasks and initiatives including:

  • Day to day operations and business of the Center, including supervision of IEEC personnel
  • Liaison with industry members, clients, and advisory boards, and industry groups
  • Organization and conduct of the annual electronics packaging conference, and industrial and technical advisory board meetings,
  • Management of the industry-driven research project proposal and selection process to defining the IEEC research portfolio
  • Business development, marketing, communications, and membership recruiting for the IEEC
  • Program management (cost, schedule, and performance assurance) of funded IEEC projects
  • Providing team leadership that grows funded research programs adjacent to the field of electronics packaging aligned with the IEEC strategic plan for growth
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Requirements:

  • A minimum of an M.S. degree is required.
  • The position requires state-of-the-art knowledge in electronics packaging.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with industry representatives and academic researchers, including faculty and students, is essential.
  • Active participation in relevant technical societies such as IEEE-CPMT (Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology), SMTA (Surface Mount Technology Association), iMAPS (International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society) and/or others is desired.
  • Business management experience in the electronics manufacturing industry is a plus.
  • Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in a field relevant to electronics packaging is desired.
  • Minimum of five years of electronics packaging industry experience, including team leadership, is preferred.

  • Additional Information:

    Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000 annually
