Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a 309-bed freestanding children's hospital and Level I trauma center, and Nicklaus Children's Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children's Health System, are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead one of the busiest emergency departments in the United States.
This role is responsible for setting the strategy for the Pediatric Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. The section chief for Emergency Medicine will oversee all clinical care, quality metrics, teaching and research, with responsibilities including: provide medical leadership, oversight of clinical and operational activities, as well as lead the quality work of the clinical program, and promote professionalism and a culture of accountability.
The 65-room Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children's Hospital was visited 99,000 times in 2019. The care team is comprised of more than 20 board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric emergency medicine physicians, 12 pediatricians and 15 midlevels, with pediatric specialists and subspecialists on call, 24 hours a day.
To ensure continued leadership in patient satisfaction, the entire Emergency Department staff continually devises and implements strategies to reduce patient waiting time, enhance the waiting room atmosphere and improve the delivery of care for patients and families. It is also home to the Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center, the only freestanding Level I pediatric trauma center in Florida. An adjoining helipad and LifeFlight critical care transport enhances the facility's ability to handle incoming traumas, as well as transfers from other hospitals.
