The South Orange County Community College District is looking for qualified applicants for embedded tutoring. Embedded Tutors provide additional support to students inside and outside the classroom, assisting with class activities, workshops, review sessions, individual tutoring, and modeling student behavior. If selected for an interview, you'll be contacted by the hiring department. Avoid contacting Human Resources about your application status. View your application status on our website. This position isn't available for current SOCCCD adjunct instructors or lecturers. Applicants must be willing to work on campus and meet with students via Zoom.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

The Embedded Tutor attends weekly class meetings to support students by:

Co-facilitating with instructors
Tutoring to enhance English language skills
Modeling academic behaviors

- Host language workshops and provide learning strategies to promote independent learning. Attendance at training sessions is mandatory. Other duties as assigned.

Ability to:
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience Guidelines:

Education/Training:
Minimum Qualifications (applicants): Enrolled as a graduate student or hold a Master's degree in TESOL, Education, Linguistics, or English. Completed coursework in TESOL, Education, Linguistics, or English. Desire to enter the field of teaching/education. Experience tutoring in reading and writing. Work experience in a writing, tutoring, or success center.

Additional Information:

$18.00/hr

Up to 20 hours per week

This position is a short-term, temporary, hourly, Non-Bargaining Unit (NBU) role, not exceeding 160 days per fiscal year (July 1-June 30). The length of the assignment can change based on departmental needs. Recruitment open until filled or withdrawn.

Successful employment is subject to completing the Human Resources pre-employment process (onboarding). Live Scan fingerprinting, background checks, reference checks, TB testing may be required. Falsification of pre-employment information will lead to a job offer withdrawal.

NBUat-will employment:
Following onboarding, employment may begin as a short-term, temporary NBU role. Employment is as needed, terminable by either party without explanation. No reemployment rights included.

Worksite:
NBUemployees work in one department/site.

Work schedules: Determined by managers/supervisors.

160-day restriction:
NBUemployees work up to 160 days annually across all positions.

California Sick leave:
NBUemployees are eligible per AB1522.

Retirement information: NBUemployees not to exceed 960 hours annually. Over 1,000 hours require contributing to CalPERS.
