    Job Description

    This high-level Metallurgical Engineering position is responsible for challenging metallurgical, welding, and heat treatment issues to support valve manufacturing for critical-service applications in nuclear, oil and gas, and chemical industries, etc.

    The individual will report to the Manager of Metallurgical Process Control and work to improve the welding and heat treatment process at Flowserve Raleigh plant.


    The primary responsibilities are:


    Serve as the metallurgical SME in the plant to provide technical support to engineering, procurement, project management, QA/QC, and drive the continuous improvement of metallurgical process control at Raleigh plant to ensure quality and code compliance.

    Establish and maintain relevant standard operation instructions, heat treatment manuals, procedures, and operator training and qualifications related to welding, heat treatment, material testing, and metallurgical process controls to be fully compliance with site Quality Manual, customer requirements, and pertinent codes and standards.

    Manage internal material specifications (RMC's) for various casting, forging, piping etc. to meet customer order quality requirements, internal Engineering and QA requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
    Review material, welding, and heat treatment specifications received from customers for quotations and new orders.
    Review material CMTR's, welding and heat treatment specifications, and evaluate vendor deviation requests from the suppliers.

    Manage and maintain equipment calibration to meet ASME and/or RCC-M requirements, including all welding machines, heat treatment furnaces, induction preheating equipment, tensile/hardness testers, rod ovens, and other instruments.

    Perform or coordinate additional material testing (chemistry, hardness, tensile, PMI, corrosion) as required. Review all work orders with heat treatment to ensure compliance. Supervise brazing welding as needed.

    Support the site for internal and external audits (e.g., ANI, ASME, NUPIC, ISO, etc.) for issues related to materials and metallurgic control process.

    Actively engage continuous improvement and support site-wide effort to improve internal process and reduce product defects in daily work activities due to welding, heat treatment, and other metallurgical process controls.


    Requirements:


    Must have a bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials, Welding Engineering, or similar Engineering disciplines, with a minimum of 5 years of professional working experience in manufacturing.

    Must have in-depth technical knowledge in metallurgy, welding, heat treatment, material specifications, and material testing (tensile, hardness, Charpy, Corrosion, PMI, OES) for typical casting/forging/piping materials used in heavy valve manufacturing.

    Must have working knowledge of codes and standards, including ASME BPV Code Section I, II, III, V, VIII and IX, ASME B16.34, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASTM, ANSI, ASNT, 10CFR50 Appendix B, 10CFR 21, ISO 9001.

    Must be a great team worker; be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management.


    Preferred:
    Working knowledge with additional codes and standards such as API, PED, RCC-M
    Prior experience with nuclear industry and NQA-1 requirements
    Certificate and prior experience with welding, brazing, induction preheating, post-weld heat treatment, equipment calibration
    Knowledge in foundry casting, forging, and manufacturing process
    Lean and 6S experience
