About Us: ARECA Insurance Exchange, an Alaska-domiciled, member-owned and
member-governed insurance exchange, is seeking a Claims Assistant/Adjuster
Trainee to join our team and contribute to the exceptional service we
provide. We will provide on-the-job training for this position to become a

Job Overview: Set up new claims, process the mail, scan documents with
verification to make sure all pages are captured including maintenance of
electronic filing in the claims system, prepare various letters, assist
claimants, members, providers and vendors with claim inquires, prepare and
process medical bills to go to audit. Enter bills for payment and issue
payments with all the necessary backup documentation. Request medical
records and manage the discovery process. Primary receptionist for AIE. Answer
phones. Responsible for understanding the reporting requirements for
workers' compensation claims to be reported to the Alaska Workers' Compensation
Board through the Electronic Data Interface System (EDI). Prepare Compensation
Reports and Controversion Notices under the direct supervision of the Claims
Manager, calculate temporary total and partial disability rates. Responsible
for preparation of monthly claims system check registers, reconciliation
reports, and quarterly deductible billing and loss run reports. Assists
the Claims Manager in preparation of annual AWCB Second Injury Fund
report. Makes travel arrangements for injured workers, research disputed
medical billings, prepares insurance claims kits and other duties as
assigned.
Education and Experience: Successful candidate will
possess at least two years' experience in a claims assistant or similar
position of comparable insurance industry experience. A two-year or four-year
degree and demonstrated work experience is desired, but not required.
The responsibilities of this position as described above
require a high degree of familiarity and experience with the Microsoft Office
suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. Typing skills of not less
than 50 words per minute with minimal errors is necessary.
Language Skills: This position requires the ability to articulate
in a clear and concise manner, both in written and oral form, information of
moderate complexity regarding the operations of the insurance exchange and
their affiliates. This position is responsible for significant contact with
members/insureds, claimants, and medical providers. This position is required
to conduct such contact with professional decorum.
Reasoning Ability:
This position requires a high degree of reasoning skills to
satisfactorily gain and maintain an appropriate level of understanding of the
mandatory state and federal reporting, knowledge of the Alaska Workers'
Compensation Act and legal processes and accurate recordkeeping and other
requirements for which the position is responsible, including examples provided
above in descriptions of essential duties. Ability to apply common sense to
carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
Certificates, Licenses:
This position requires obtaining certification as a Notary
Public in the state of Alaska, not later than 90 days subsequent to
commencement of employment.
Candidate will be expected to obtain an adjuster trainee
license after one year of employment with the expectation of becoming a fully
licensed property and casualty adjuster within two years.
