    Description

    Overview of the Position:

    The Medical Assistant is an essential member of the patient center medical home team.

    The Medical Assistant is responsible for coordination of care between the patient and medical provider, while helping support the clinical team with effective and efficient delivery of health care services.


    Education and Experience:


    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school
    • National CMA certification
    • BLS certification required

    Required Skills / Abilities:


    • Maintain current general medical knowledge.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and guest.
    • Ability to take initiative and handle various task simultaneously
    • Knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations, and protocols
    • Knowledge of data bases (ex: EMR systems)
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
    • Familiar with medication names and usage
    • Medical terminology
    • At least two years of experience in a physician's office
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Detailed oriented
    • Ability to multitask
    • Compassion for patients

    Supervisory Responsibilities:


    • This position has no direct reports

    Essential Job Functions:


    • Assist the medical provider in the evaluation and treatment of clients to include patient intake, taking and recording of vital signs, diagnostic procedures, and lab work.
    • Assist with medication refills when needed
    • Facilitates efficient patient flow and room turnover
    • Keeps work area neat, tidy, and well supplied.
    • Stocks exam room with supplies daily
    • Performs data entry task for reporting purposes
    • Responds to phone calls in timely manner
    • Performs practice specific duties in accordance with recommended guidelines
    • Participation in training opportunities to enhance knowledge such as conferences, and continuing education/in-service events
    • Utilizes data systems to assist with chart prep prior to patients appointment
    • Develops and maintains working knowledge of all equipment needed to perform duties
    • Ability to understand and administer vaccines and immunizations to pediatric and/or adult patients.
    • Effective communication with other healthcare entities, departments, and guest
    • Manage and maintain medical records
    • Schedule appointments
    • Provide appropriate education to patient and/or patient's family
    • Ability to help in other offices when needed(may include travel)
    • Helps maintain medical supply inventory
    • Assist in training new medical assistants to the organization in the standard working procedures of HopeHealth
    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements for PRN Status:


    • I understand that I will be compensated at the agreed upon hourly rate; plus mileage if applicable. Mileage will be computed based on the IRS. I understand that I am not eligible for any benefits including but not limited to personal leave, bereavement leave, holiday pay, shift differential pay or any of the HopeHealth's life, disability, or health insurance programs. Worker's compensation coverage will be maintained. PRN employees are not eligible for cost of living adjustment or bonuses.
    • I understand that I am responsible for travel to the site assigned; therefore I must have reliable transportation to remain in the PRN staffing pool. Travel will be paid based on the Federal Per Diem Rates for the destination. I will be assigned a base location; however, my mileage will be computed based on my home address on file or base location whichever is closest to the assigned work location. (All mileage is due to your direct supervisor by end of business on payroll Friday to ensure required approval signatures.)
    • I understand that the hours of operations for HopeHealth are 7:30am- 8:00pm and I could be asked to cover shifts Monday- Saturday based on my availability. PRN staff will be required to submit availability by the 15th day of each month for the following month to their supervisor. PRN staff will be required to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month.
    • In the event I am called to cover an unplanned absence (i.e., call-in), I agree to report for duty at the start of the shift or within two hours of the start of the shift. If I report to work within 1 hour of the start of the shift I will be paid for the entire shift, otherwise I will be paid for the hours worked. If I am called off after reporting to the site for a shift; I will be paid for at least 2 hours plus mileage, if applicable. I will also be available to assist with coverage of planned absences that may extend over prolonged periods (e.g., vacations, staff sickness, and vacated positions).
    • HopeHealth will monitor my eligibility for continued participation in the PRN staffing pool. I will be expected to accept shifts that are offered on my availability turned into my supervisor. If I am unable to cover on given availability, or am a no show to an assignment, I understand that these are grounds for dismissal. I understand that I will be expected to meet all other criteria for continued employment, as required of all HopeHealth, Inc. employees.
    • In the event I am aware of days or periods of time when I will not be available to accept assignments at HopeHealth; for example, vacations, illness or family emergencies, I will notify the supervisor for the PRN Staffing Pool in the manner that is consistent with the HR policies and of procedures of the HopeHealth, Inc.
    • I understand that HopeHealth is under no obligation to offer me any assignments as a result of this agreement and I have no obligation to accept assignments, if offered, except as described above. I am obligated to contact HopeHealth to maintain the required number of shifts to remain in the PRN Staffing Pool.
    • I understand that I must submit a data sheet and update information immediately as changes occur.
    • I understand that HopeHealth, Inc. reserves the right to alter and/or cancel this PRN Staffing Pool at any time in its sole and absolute discretion.

    Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 pounds unassisted in normal daily activities and up to 30 lbs.
