Job Purpose:
Performs specialized examination of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease. Mammography technologists may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.


Essential Functions:
(Examples of Duties)

• Complete patient education regarding the exam.
• Promote privacy and comfort for the patient.
• Perform diagnostic or screening mammogram as ordered
• Prepares and assists the Radiologist in the completion of intricate mammography examinations, including breast biopsies
• Produce high quality images, as well as CAD images, for the Radiologist to evaluate
• Complete appropriate documentation related to the study
• Perform quality control functions related to mammography
• Assist in the compilation and maintenance of statistical data and mammography patient tracking.
• Follow infection control and safety guidelines.
• Assist in directing plain film patients as necessary
• Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Education:
Completion of a two year approved School of Radiologic Technology

Experience:
One year full time experience as a Mammography Technologist

Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure technique. Uses professional and ethical judgement and critical thinking when performing their duties. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Licenses/Certifications:
Valid state radiology registration as required by state law. Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology. CPR certification.

Physical Demands:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. May be required to help lift/transfer patient. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
