- Programs (as required) and accurately sets up, and operates CNC machines.
- Ability to set up and run a vertical machining center for one off prototype parts or production parts run.
- Maintains the tools and machines required for optimum job performance.
- Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers, indicators, calipers etc..
- Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
- Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Works from drawings, work orders, and instructions covering production parts or tooling requirements.
- Machines parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Sets up, adjusts, and operates all of the basic machining tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Measures, examines, or tests completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.
- Sets controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized CNC machine control media.
- Constructs, modifies, or repairs a wide variety of product parts, subassemblies, and related tooling.
- Performs close tolerance precision machining or sheet metal assembly operations during development and production states.
- Understands and complies with customer specification in part manufacturing.
- Understands and uses a wide variety of mathematical functions applicable to work tasks.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
- Must be able to work independently, without direction, with all types of processes and prototype development instructions, including prints, sketches, schematics, memos, notes etc.
- Able to work with minimum supervisory guidance.
- High School Degree or equivalent required and 8 years of prior related experience.
- Two (2) Year Technical Degree or completion of Relevant Apprenticeship appreciated and 4 years' of prior related experience.
- Experience and on-the-job training may be used in lieu of formal apprenticeship program.
- Minimum of 4 years manual and CNC machining experience in a high technology manufacturing environment, including setting up machine tools, lathes, and milling machines.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience reading/interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds and speeds.
- Must have a thorough knowledge in the operation of all metal working tools and machines, and the ability to determine the most efficient and economical methods of producing all materials and hardware related to or used in the construction of dies, fixtures, gauges, gigs, and tools.
- Able to set up and operate a variety of machine shop and/or sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
- Demonstrates effectiv verbal, wrtten and interpersonal communication skills, as well as, the ability to work in a team environment on research and solution development.

The primary purpose the Machinist position is to setup and operate CNC machines to produce precision parts and instruments. Additionally needs to operate manual lathes & milling machines. Performs a variety of manufacturing operations related to fabrication and/or machining of precision parts precision and/or sheet metal for manufacturing assembly. The position applies knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The position may require routine machine maintenance and programming capabilities.
