    Schedule: 40 hours, M-F, normal business

    Duration: Initial 6-month W2 contract; extensions/conversion based on performance

    Project Aria is a research device worn like regular glasses that will help us build the software — including a live map of 3D spaces and contextual AI — and hardware necessary for future AR devices. Our vision is to create a future where our devices seamlessly integrate into everyday life, enhancing our world and making our devices more human in design and interaction.

    Project Aria is seeking a talented and driven Prototyper with a knack for designing and prototyping AI-powered interactions and experiences. As a key member of our AR/VR team, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of AR and AI interactions. Your role will involve exploring, prototyping, and building experiences that redefine how people interact with AR and AI. Collaborating with our team of expert Interaction Designers, Scientists, and Engineers, you'll contribute to the creation of technology that aims to make AR and AI universally accessible.

    Your innovative work will play a crucial role in user research studies, technology demonstrations, and proof-of-concept prototypes, paving the way for the future of AR and AI.

    Responsibilities:

    • Innovation and Prototyping: Explore and create prototypes that shape the future of AR and AI interactions.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with interaction designers, scientists, product managers, engineers, and researchers to bring great experiences from concept to implementation.
    • User Research: Collaborate with user research and design teams to test, iterate on prototypes, and conduct experiments based on research questions.
    • Technology Awareness: Stay informed about the latest advancements in machine learning, NLP, and related technologies.
    • Research Advocacy: Contribute to research growth across teams by sharing research trends and best practices within the community.
    • Communication: Clearly explain prototyping decisions to a diverse group of internal stakeholders.
    • Process Development: Assist in establishing prototyping processes to align cross-functional teams.
    • Feedback and Improvement: Actively give and seek feedback to enhance the quality and craftsmanship of the product.
    • Adaptability: Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments, demonstrating a growth mindset and the ability to learn new languages and technologies as needed.
    • Documentation: handover materials for knowledge transfer, across written guides, wikis and repositories.

    Required Qualifications:

    • (Must have) Prototyping/Game Development Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Prototyping or Game Development, with proven leadership skills in cross-functional environments.
    • (Must have) AI/Client Research Experience: At least 2 years of research experience in AI/Client Prototyping.
    • (Must have) Technical Knowledge and Programming Expertise: Familiarity with large language models, deep learning, and neural networks.
    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and shell script.
    • Deep knowledge in various programming languages including Mobile (Android), Web (Java, JavaScript, Python, Node, HTML), Embedded (FreeRTOS), Analytics, DevOps, and MLOps.
    • Technology Understanding: Practical knowledge of current technologies used to build rich experiences in responsive web and native mobile large enterprise apps.
    • User-Centered Design: Understanding of user-centered design methodologies, ability to create mock-ups and prototypes at varying levels of fidelity, and knowledge of UI design standards and accessibility requirements for web and mobile.
    • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
    • Engineering Competence: Broad engineering competence and in-depth technical knowledge of comprehensive software systems, along with demonstrated experience in successfully planning, organizing, and conducting software development projects in a dynamic or startup environment.
    • Possibility for minimal travel to Meta onsite during role

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Rapid Prototyping: Experience in building prototypes within short time frames.
    • Experience with WebGL, Unity Engine, or other 3D prototyping tools.
    • Experience working with researcher scientists.
    • Experience with hardware prototyping (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beagleboard).
    • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, Client, HCI or related field experience.
    • Familiarity with 2D content creation tools (e.g., Figma, etc.) .
