    Position Overview
    Primary Purpose of Position
    The Department of Biology at North Carolina A&T State University, College of Science and Technology, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of Cancer Biology, starting in August 2024. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level but an appointment at a higher rank might be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. In particular, the Department is seeking a qualified candidate who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in the areas of cancer research in relation to animal models and therapy, molecular biology and signal transduction, systems biology, cancer genetics and precision medicine, tumor virology, drug development and target validation, or epigenetics and related areas relevant to tumorigenesis with a focus on reducing cancer health disparities.

    The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to engage in culturally responsive teaching, teach Biology courses at the graduate and under-graduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community.
    The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program in cancer biology, secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of PhD and MS students in applied biological science and related areas. Mentoring undergraduate students is also expected. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts promote the mission of the Biology Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology (COST) as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and technology areas is encouraged.

    Primary Function of Organizational Unit
    North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral Research University dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement.

    The College of Science and Technology enrolls 2200 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.

    The Department of Biology is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise related to biological sciences. The Department of Biology offers degree programs in General Biology, and a Pre-medical Track at the B.S. level, General Biology at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Bioscience in the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department also offers a minor program Biology. The Department of Biology has more than seven hundred and eighty-five (785) enrolled undergraduates and approximately twenty (20) enrolled master's students, and also enroll approximately thirty (30) PhD students under the PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. Biology is housed in Barnes Hall, and currently has eighteen (18) tenured, tenure-track or teaching assistant professor faculty members. The Department of Biology's mission is to educate students to become competent, competitive, and confident leaders who excel in global scientific community. Additionally, the department provides instruction in the biological sciences through classroom and laboratory interactions, undergraduate research experiences, seminars, and professional career advisement programs and activities.
    Minimum Requirements
    Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and an outstanding research record. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
