K-5 Intervention Specialist ~ S. L. Mason Elementary School
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision by the Principal and ELA/ Math Curriculum Directors, serves as an intervention teacher in reading, writing, and math; utilizes research-based instructional strategies, activities, and programs; engages and supports students in learning in accordance with Common Core Georgia Performance standards; maintains and creates an effective learning environment; plans instruction and designs learning experiences for students; assesses and provides ongoing monitoring of student learning; and develops as a professional educator.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND WORK
EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree preferred. A bachelor's degree will be considered with reading & math endorsements. Must have five years of teaching experience and hold a valid Georgia certification in Early Childhood (P-5).
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides research-based interventions through the use of a variety of instructional strategies, activities, and programs as specified by the school and/or district in the areas of pre-reading, reading, language arts, and mathematics to meet student learning plans and goals.
Provides individual and flexible small group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students. Establishes and maintains an effective learning environment to maximize student participation and motivation. Prepares and provides formal and informal assessment data to classroom teachers, administrators, and parents, as appropriate. Assists in the completion of universal screening and progress monitoring data.Maintains communication between the home and the school and with the regular classroom teacher holds parent conferences as needed to discuss the student learning plan, goals, and progress.
Incorporates the use of technology in the delivery of lessons; facilitates and monitors student use of technology during research-based interventions and programs.
Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, support personnel, and parents, as needed, to plan, implement, and monitor the student learning plan and goals.
Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records for materials and technology. Analyzes and uses student data to accurately evaluate, adjust, and support student learning plans and goals.Maintains appropriate documentation to track student and program data to determine the effectiveness of research-based instructional strategies, activities, and programs utilized within student learning plans and goals.
Collaborates with administrators and teachers to ensure program needs are aligned with school and district school improvement goals. Serves as an active member of the school-wide Response to Intervention/Pyramid of Intervention Team (POINT).Maintains professional competence through a variety of ongoing professional learning activities provided by the district, school, and professional educational organizations; participates in job-embedded professional learning; and engages in continuous self-directed professional development through professional books, articles, journals, Web 2.0 tools, action research, etc.
Contributes to the profession by providing professional development for teachers, administrators, and support personnel related to research-based interventions and instructional strategies, activities, and programs based on identified school/staff needs.
Attends staff meetings, professional learning, training sessions, and serves on staff committees as required. Abides by all Code of Ethics for Educators and Board policies. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance. Other duties may be assigned.SALARY:
