**About the Role**
The US Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for EHS in the Albany locations as well as all current and future sites within the United States. This person will provide Leadership, Vision, and Expertise to proactively prevent injuries from occurring, create a Zero Accident culture, and a culture where employees participate daily in achieving our EHS requirements. They must meet or exceed all regulatory, customer, and company expectations.
This position works as the Leader and Liaison between the Sites EHS teams, and Corporate EHS, reporting to the Director of Operations Excellence. They will be the Subject Matter Expert in all EHS areas, including establishing and aligning goals, monitoring progress, implementing countermeasures to correct any misses, risk management, workers compensation claims management, and driving continuous improvement.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
Utilizing Lean Manufacturing Tools, lead the continuous improvement effort to eliminate and/or mitigate the cost of Safety, Risk Assessment, Workers Compensation Claims Management, and Insurance.
Lead efforts to reduce Health Risks associated with the pandemic and other contagious illnesses.
Review, monitor, and manage the Worker Compensation Claim process. This includes managing the early return to work and modified duty program, monitoring, and analyzing accident and injury trends, performs hazard analysis; collaborating directly with workers compensation carrier to investigate all reports in a timely fashion.
Develop and implement systems to ensure safe work practices are integrated in all activities.
Lead the local risk assessment program to ensure environmental aspects and safety hazards are identified and controlled, risks are evaluated and assessed, and suitable countermeasures are implemented and effective.
Create and maintain a standardized Emergency Response Plan for each Site.
Formulate recommendations to site leadership using risk-based prioritization of EHS corrective and preventive actions and audit findings.
Set annual improvement targets and track results providing timely results to corporate and site leadership on annual EHS targets and objectives.
Partner with line management to develop and implement site-specific action plans to achieve EHS objectives and improve EHS performance.
Design, develop and deliver EHS training programs
Implement processes so that all incidents, near misses and potential non-compliances are identified, reported, and thoroughly investigated with appropriate and effective corrective actions taken.
Develop, implement, and evaluate emergency procedures and co-ordinate with external emergency services.
Ensure appropriate environmental and personal health monitoring is conducted and that industrial hygiene programs are in place and effective.
Conduct compliance inspections and EHS Management System audits to verify conformance with federal, state, local and company standards.
Manage and monitor chemical inventory and chemical management practices and oversee site PPE program.
Implement, manage, and lead Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) efforts across US sites.
Establish, track, and trend key EHS performance indicators and develop reports and recommendations for improvement.
Support the operational management in the control of contractors and visitors.
Conduct EHS Audits for each Site and ensure all corrective actions are complete.
**Qualifications**
**Skills & Knowledge:**
Strong understanding of Production, Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing Systems
Knowledge of EHS management systems including ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001
ASP/CSP/CIH Certification or ability and desire to obtain CSP/CIH highly preferred
Industrial Hygiene experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills can articulate safety within a business framework.
Creativity, innovation, and the ability to solve problems and generate viable solutions.
Demonstrated experience leading individuals and cross-functional teams.
Experienced in auditing in a manufacturing environment.
Strong coaching, facilitating, and training skills.
Knowledge of MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel
Highly motivated and results driven. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Collaborator with passion, drive and ability to self-start.
**Experience:**
More than 5 years of EHS professional experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 2 years leading an EHS program.
3+ years of experience in Lean Manufacturing leading 2 & 3 P Events, Kaizen Events, A3 Problem Solving
Experience with environmental air permitting, MACT, waste management, wastewater treatment processes, SPCC, and SWPPP.
**Education Required:**
Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related degree. Certification as a Safety Professional may be considered in lieu of degree.
Formal TPM training from an "academy" organization - either through direct consulting experience or via organizations with deep, well-established lean operating systems.
