The Assistant Plant Manager plays a critical role in driving quality plant performance, overall employee effectiveness, and operational excellence Acting as a directive liaison between plant leadership and supervisory staff, this position ensures clear communication, accountability, and execution of production objectives with a focus on safety and compliance. The role requires a strong, people-centered leader who provides direct guidance while fostering engagement and continuous improvement. Additionally, the Assistant Plant Manager supports productivity by addressing development opportunities, monitoring performance metrics, and collaborating with their team to achieve production targets and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly support the Plant Manager in supervising daily operations, production schedules, safety of the facility, and quality of product.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure correct performance metrics are in place to measure the productivity of the facility and collaborate with supervisory team to meet production targets.
  • Establish growth opportunities and development initiatives for plant employees, encouraging high-performance behaviors.
  • Assist Plant Manager in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures with contingency plans to mitigate key-man risk.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude, with an interest in hands-on application of engineering principles.
  • Provide guidance to employees in areas of conflict resolution, team building, and overall employee engagement to foster a positive working environment.
  • Lead plant operations in the event of the Plant Manager absence, or during periods of high demand to support continuity.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Plant Manager and the supervisory staff to guarantee clear communication and alignment throughout the organizational hierarchy.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration, accountability, and employee engagement that reduces turnover risk and creates opportunity for career growth within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field (or experiential equivalent).
  • 3 – 5 years of progressive manufacturing operations experience with 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment that requires flexibility, as dedicated focus areas may shift throughout the day, week, or month.
  • Quick problem-solving skill with use of analytical and strategic thinking to identify the best way forward.
  • Knowledge of safety necessities and requirements on an active plant floor, and experience adhering to wage and hour regulations.
  • Technical proficiency with use of specific manufacturing programming, as well as Microsoft Office tools for organization and communication.
  • Proven leadership ability, with evidence of positive employee engagement and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated organizational and inter-personal communication skills.
